The dangers of flat head

Everyone has heard of the term flat head. Some people say that flat head is caused by incorrect sleeping posture when young. So for those who have children at home, you should be very careful when your baby is sleeping. In fact, the harm of flat head cannot be seen in childhood, at most it is unsightly. However, as you age, a flat head may cause you to look dumber.

Plagiocephaly may affect the baby's early intellectual development, especially mobility. Future evaluations of this group of infants at ages 18 to 36 months will allow us to assess the stability of this effect. The current data do not necessarily indicate that plagiocephaly causes neurodevelopmental delay.

They only suggest that plagiocephaly is a symptom of an increased risk of neurodevelopmental delay and that pediatricians should pay close attention to the development of infants with plagiocephaly.

Unlike the current development in China, the United States has a long history of research on flat head syndrome and has established systematic observation and diagnosis methods. The following are the American diagnostic criteria for flat head syndrome:

1. Flat head and tilted head less than 6 mm may not need treatment. As the child grows, the sleeping position changes autonomously, the hair covers the head, etc., these deformities may become less noticeable;

2. Asymmetry between 6 and 12 mm is considered moderate flat head syndrome, and treatment is recommended for this condition;

3. When the asymmetry exceeds 12 mm, it is often accompanied by a combination of flat head and tilted head, and should be treated;

4. In most cases, the flat head or head deviation that we can detect with the naked eye is more than 6 mm;

5. Only those that are not easy to detect require diagnosis by professional doctors. Unfortunately, there may not be enough hospitals and doctors in China that pay attention to this field.
