Is it okay for children to drink glucose water?

Glucose is generally used in medicine and is often used in combination with other drugs. Moreover, when a patient suffers from a serious illness, he may not be able to eat for a short period of time. At this time, some glucose can be injected through intravenous drip, which not only replenishes nutrition to the body but also avoids hunger. Of course, injecting glucose was a thing of the past, now it’s all nutrient solution. So, is it good for children to drink glucose water?

Glucose is an indispensable nutrient for metabolism in living organisms. The heat released by its oxidation reaction is an important source of energy required for human life activities.

Glucose is mainly used to supplement the lack of energy in the human body. In daily life, many parents believe that glucose is rich in nutrients and regard it as a tonic for children. They put some glucose in whatever their children eat, believing that this is beneficial and harmless. In fact, this practice is not only uneconomical but also harmful to children's health.

Except for glucose, all other sugars ingested by the human body cannot be directly absorbed and utilized. They must be converted into glucose in the body before they can be absorbed. White sugar is a disaccharide formed by the condensation of two molecules of monosaccharide. When the human body ingests this type of disaccharide, the disaccharidase in the intestinal digestive juice will digest and break down the disaccharide into glucose and fructose. Glucose can be directly absorbed and enter the blood without going through the digestion process. Therefore, when the human body is in urgent need of sugar, drinking a glass of glucose can quickly absorb and utilize it.

However, for a normal human body, the gastrointestinal tract can easily digest a certain amount of white sugar and absorb it quickly. Therefore, there is no need to replace sugar with glucose. On the contrary, if children are fed glucose for a long time, it will often lead to a decline in normal digestive function, causing the normal secretion of disaccharidases and other digestive enzymes in the intestine to become disused and degraded, affecting the digestion and absorption of other foods by children.

Therefore, children should not take glucose regularly. Finally, I wish your baby grows up healthily!
