Children's rubbed legs syndrome?

Parents must observe their babies carefully when taking care of them. Some parents find that their children will repeat some strange movements, such as crossing their legs and rubbing them against each other. This symptom is generally called leg rubbing syndrome. When the baby has this situation, parents must guide the child slowly and not scold the child blindly. They should spend more time with the child and divert the child's attention.

Before going to sleep or after waking up, children often draw their lower limbs inward and rub them against each other; or after waking up, they rub their external genitalia with the help of hard objects such as the corner of a chair; at this time, the child will become excited, with flushed cheeks, staring eyes, sweating, etc. This can be stopped by diverting their attention in time. In addition, children's rubbed legs syndrome will gradually disappear on its own as they grow older (around 5-6 years old).

Intervention guidance

In daily care, when you find your child exhibiting this bad behavior, if you keep preaching to the child and emphasizing that this behavior is wrong, it will instead reinforce the child's behavior. As parents, you should accompany your children more often to take walks and play outdoors to relieve psychological pressure and help them overcome this bad habit. If it is caused by local inflammatory stimulation, you need to seek medical help in time, and pay attention to the cleanliness of the child's vulva.

The dangers of rubbed legs syndrome in children

Increased pigmentation of labia

Before going to sleep and after waking up, children often draw their lower limbs inward and rub them against each other; or after waking up, they rub their external genitalia with the help of hard objects such as the corner of a chair. If girls often do this, it may cause congestion of the vulva, increased secretions, or increased pigmentation of the labia.

Mild edema

This is an abnormal psychological behavior, a behavioral disorder in which children get excited by rubbing their legs. These children have normal intelligence and are conscious during seizures. Seizures usually occur before bedtime or after waking up. They do not occur when they are playing outside, and the behavior stops when their attention is distracted. If boys do this action frequently, their penis will become erect, their urethral opening will become slightly congested, and there will be mild edema.

Common causes of rubbed legs syndrome in children

1. Local irritation such as burns, damp diapers or tight pants causes local itching of the vulva, which then develops on this basis due to friction.

2. Psychological factors: Some children are emotionally unsatisfied due to tense family atmosphere, lack of maternal love, discrimination, etc., and have no toys to play with. They seek catharsis through self-stimulation, thus producing the leg-clenching action.

3. Other reasons: Among older children, the influence of pornographic videos and pornographic books and magazines is also a cause of the "leg-clenching" bad behavior. Notice:

Because the onset age can be as young as 2 months, which is not yet the habit-forming stage, or the symptoms do not improve after treatment for vulvitis or pinworms, while dopamine blockers have a certain effect, it is speculated that the cholinergic system metabolism disorder may cause dopamine hyperfunction.
