What to do if your eight-month-old baby has enteritis and diarrhea

Babies start to eat various complementary foods at eight months old. Since the gastrointestinal system is not yet fully developed, enteritis is likely to occur if you are not careful. Some babies have had diarrhea for several days, so their parents prescribed some antidiarrheal medicines for their babies at the nearby clinic, but the effect was minimal. Later, the babies became dehydrated, so the adults sent them to the hospital, and they had to receive intravenous fluids for several days before the diarrhea stopped. What should adults do when an eight-month-old baby has enteritis and diarrhea?

1. What to do if your eight-month-old baby has enteritis and diarrhea

Enteritis is diarrhea, and the causes are divided into intestinal bacterial infection and enteroviral infection. If the stool test shows a lot of white blood cells, bacterial infection is considered and antibiotics are needed for treatment. If there are no white blood cells in the stool, take oral montmorillonite powder and intestinal probiotics, and keep the abdomen warm.

The following is a dietary treatment for enteritis and diarrhea in eight-month-old babies:

1. Scorched rice soup: Grind rice flour or milk cream into powder, fry until browned, then add water and appropriate amount of sugar, and boil until it becomes a thin paste. Scorched rice soup is easy to digest, and its carbonized structure has a good adsorption and antidiarrheal effect, making it the first choice food for infants with diarrhea.

2. Carrot soup: Carrots are alkaline foods. The pectin they contain can form stools and absorb pathogenic bacteria and toxins in the intestines. It is a good antidiarrheal and antibacterial food. The method of making carrot soup is as follows: wash the carrots, cut them to remove the stems, cut them into small pieces, add water and cook them until they are soft, then filter them with gauze to remove the residue, then add water to make soup (at a ratio of 500 grams of carrots to 1000 milliliters of water), and finally add sugar and boil. Take 2 to 3 times a day, 100 to 150 ml each time. Stop using after diarrhea improves.

3. Applesauce: Apple is also an alkaline food, containing pectin and tannic acid, which has the effects of absorption, astringency and antidiarrhea. Take a fresh, soft apple, cut it in half, and use a mixing spoon to scrape it into a paste.

2. How to prevent baby from having diarrhea

1. Pay attention to food hygiene: Food should be fresh and clean. Spoiled food should never be fed to babies, and eating utensils should also be disinfected.

2. Promote breastfeeding: Breast milk is the most suitable food for babies under six months old. Human milk contains IgA, which neutralizes E. coli enterotoxin and helps prevent infection with E. coli.

3. Try adding egg yolks, fish paste, and tender tofu at five months; after seven months, add nutritious foods that are easy to digest and absorb, such as fish, minced meat, vegetables, biscuits, etc., and gradually make necessary preparations for weaning, but weaning is not suitable in summer.

4. When gradually adding food, it is best to wait until the baby gets used to one food before adding another food. Do not add several foods at the same time, especially when the baby is sick. Do not add another food. Do not force your baby to eat when he has a poor appetite.

5. Strengthen physical fitness: Increase your baby's outdoor activities and improve their ability to adapt to the natural environment. Only when the body is exercised can the physical fitness be strengthened, the body's resistance can be improved, and various diseases can be avoided.
