What to do if your two-month-old baby falls off the bed

What to do if your two-month-old baby falls off the bed

It is very common for babies to fall off the bed in life. Some babies may even get broken if they fall seriously. Therefore, mothers must stay by their babies' side when they sleep, otherwise the baby may fall off the bed due to turning over. After the baby falls off the bed, mothers must check the baby's whole body, especially the bones to see if there are any fractures. So, what should you do if a two-month-old baby falls off the bed?

I believe that many parents, like me, have the first reaction of picking up the baby and comforting him.

But this is wrong! Because the baby’s injuries after the fall are unclear, if you pick him up rashly, it is likely to cause secondary injuries!

So what should we do when our baby falls off the bed or sofa?

1. Look at the baby's landing posture

When a baby falls, different landing positions may cause different injuries.

If the baby lands face down, it is generally less dangerous;

If the baby lands on the back of his head and the floor is hard, be alert to intracranial hemorrhage and concussion;

If the baby's limbs are in an abnormal position when landing, you should carefully check whether there are any fractures. If there are any fractures, fix the fracture site with wood or cardboard, and then send to the doctor in time.

2. Look at the baby's mental state

If the baby cries immediately after falling, the possibility of head injury is generally less likely;

If the baby becomes unconscious, unconscious, cries continuously, vomits, makes abnormal movements, etc. after falling, it may be a brain injury and should be sought by medical attention immediately.

3. Observe the baby's limb movements

Pay attention to check the baby's limb movement status. If the limbs cannot move or the movements are uncoordinated, be alert to fractures or brain injuries and take relevant treatments and send the baby to the doctor in time.

4. Check for bleeding or lumps

If the baby is bleeding after falling, you should immediately stop the bleeding by pressing. If the wound is small, you can disinfect it at home. If the wound is large or the amount of bleeding is heavy, you should seek medical attention in time.

If your baby develops a hematoma after falling, you can apply cold compresses to the swelling to help the blood stasis dissipate. If the hematoma has not dissipated for more than 3 days, continue to apply hot compresses.

5. Soothe your baby’s emotions

After a preliminary assessment and ruling out the possibility of the baby being injured, you can then do what parents would do as their first reaction: pick up the baby and comfort him.

6. Pay attention to the baby's condition in the future

If the baby is found to be in good condition after examination, there is no need to send the baby to the hospital, but parents should continue to observe the baby's condition (at least 24 hours). If the baby shows any abnormalities in diet, sleep, mental state, etc., be sure to seek medical attention in time.

It is very important for parents to learn these first aid measures, but it is more important to take preventive measures to prevent such accidents from happening to their children.

First, once your baby can roll over, do not leave them alone on a bed or sofa without a backrest;

Secondly, once your baby is able to stand, do not leave him alone in a crib with low railings;

Third, if the baby sleeps in a big bed, it is recommended to add bed rails to the bed frame so that the baby will not fall when sleeping;

Fourth, lay a soft mat on the floor of the room so that even if the baby stumbles or falls, he will not be easily injured.
