People take dental health very seriously, especially children's dental health requires parents to pay strict attention, keep an eye on their children's dental growth status, and solve some dental growth problems in a timely manner. For example, the phenomenon of children growing teeth on their gums is quite common in life. Let’s take a look at what happens when a child has a tooth growing on his gums. I hope everyone can understand it. It could be supernumerary teeth or ectopic permanent teeth. The size and shape of a supernumerary tooth may be very similar to the molars, premolars, or teeth in the group of anterior teeth to which it belongs, or it may be very different in appearance from the adjacent teeth. According to literature reports, the incidence of central supernumerary teeth in the Caucasian population is 0.15% to 1.0%, with a male to female ratio of 2:1.
Position of supernumerary teeth: Supernumerary teeth can occur in any tooth position, but they have obvious predilection positions: the most common is the maxillary "mesiodens", followed by the maxillary fourth molar, maxillary lateral molar (paramolar), mandibular premolar and maxillary lateral incisor, and occasionally supernumerary teeth can also be seen in the mandibular central incisor and maxillary premolar. Interestingly, and unexplained, approximately 90% of supernumerary teeth occur in the upper jaw. Supernumerary teeth in the deciduous dentition are relatively rare. Among them, the most common tooth position is the upper lateral incisors, and there are also reports of supernumerary teeth in the upper and lower deciduous canines. Supernumerary teeth morphology: "Mesiodens" are located between the two upper central incisors and occur unilaterally or symmetrically. The sprouts have already emerged or are in ambush, blocked, or even growing backwards. The crowns of "central supernumerary teeth" are usually slightly tapered and have shorter roots. The maxillary fourth molar, located distal to the third molar, appears as a small, immature tooth, but may also be the same size as a normal tooth. Occasionally, the mandibular fourth molar is also visible. Lateral molars are located on the buccal or lingual side of the maxillary molars, or in the adjacent spaces between the maxillary first and second molars, or the second and third molars. They are small in size and incompletely developed.
Supernumerary teeth may erupt or be buried in the bone: Since supernumerary teeth increase the number of teeth in the dental arch, they often cause misalignment or obstruction of adjacent teeth. Many of the teeth in multiple supernumerary teeth may be impacted, often showing the dental characteristics of cleidocranial dysplasia. Disease treatment Supernumerary teeth should be extracted as soon as possible. If necessary, use orthodontic appliances to assist in correction. |
