What to do if your child has a stuffy nose in autumn

The weather gets colder in autumn, and children with poor resistance often suffer from colds and other diseases due to the large temperature difference. In addition, the dry air in autumn makes it easy for children's underdeveloped respiratory tracts to become clogged with secretions after catching a cold. Nasal congestion will affect their normal breathing and make children become abnormally irritable. So what should we do if children have a stuffy nose in autumn? Let’s find out below.

1. Use steam to fumigate your nose. You can open the lid of the thermos and slowly let your baby get closer to the steam, without burning his face. Let the steam fumigate his nose to help nasal ventilation. It will be effective after about 10 minutes each time.

2. Massage your nose. You can use your thumb and index finger to massage your nose from the corner of the eye downward and then upward to promote normal blood circulation in the nose and help relieve nasal congestion symptoms.

3. Saline nose drops. Put 1 teaspoon of salt in 240 ml of warm water, put it in an empty eye drops bottle, hold the baby upright, drop 1 drop into each nostril, then let the baby lie down for a while and use a nasal washer to suck out the secretions.

4. Drink scallion water. Take 5 green onions, remove the white parts and wash them, add 40 ml of water, bring to a boil and then simmer for 3 minutes, add a small amount of sugar, and let your baby drink when the temperature is right.

The methods introduced above can effectively solve the symptoms of nasal congestion in children. If the symptoms are not serious, these methods can be used to relieve them. However, if the condition is more serious, you must take medication to treat the cold. Once the cold is under control, the nasal congestion can be well solved. Also note that you can place a humidifier in the space where your child lives to increase the humidity in the air to relieve the discomfort of nasal congestion.
