There is currently no medicine that can completely cure and solve the problem of epilepsy in children. Therefore, in this situation, if you want to control the onset of epilepsy, you should consider surgical treatments and also pay attention to preventing epilepsy attacks in your daily life. 1. So far, there are more than 30 types of epilepsy. Different types of epilepsy have different treatments and prognoses, and no drug can treat all types of epilepsy. After suffering from epilepsy, you must first go to a regular hospital to see an epilepsy specialist. The doctor needs to ask about your medical history in detail and do necessary examinations, such as EEG, head CT, MRI, etc. Only after a confirmed diagnosis can correct and effective treatment be given. Currently, the most commonly used drugs include traditional anti-epileptic drugs such as carbamazepine and sodium valproate, and new anti-epileptic drugs such as lamotrigine, topiramate, and oxcarbazepine. These anti-epileptic drugs are safer and have fewer side effects than old drugs such as phenytoin sodium and phenobarbital, and are a more ideal choice for patients with epilepsy. The treatment of epilepsy advocates monotherapy, starting with a low dose. If the single drug is ineffective, consider adding or switching to another antiepileptic drug. If it is truly believed that a drug is ineffective for the patient or has excessive side effects, and another drug is needed, the replacement must be gradual. 2. If medication cannot control epileptic seizures, surgical treatment can be considered. The main surgical methods currently include: 1. Cortical lesion resection; 2. Anterior temporal lobectomy; 3. Hemispheric cortical resection; 4. Combined brain sectioning; 5. Stereotactic surgical treatment of epilepsy; 6. Minimally invasive discrete brain pacemaker implantation; 7. Laser surgery for epilepsy; 8. Vagus nerve stimulation therapy. 3. First aid measures for epileptic seizures a. Do not force-feed water or forcefully press the limbs during an epileptic seizure. Instead, stimulate or press acupoints such as Ren Zhong, Hegu, Zusanli, and Yongquan. b. When an epileptic seizure occurs, quickly have the patient lie on his back without a pillow, and place a tongue depressor (or toothbrush handle) wrapped in gauze between the upper and lower teeth to prevent the patient from biting his tongue. Then loosen the collar and tilt the patient's head to one side to allow oral secretions to flow out on their own, preventing saliva from accidentally entering the airway and causing aspiration pneumonia. At the same time, the patient's lower jaw should be lifted to prevent the tongue from blocking the trachea due to the shrinkage of the neck. |
