How to treat drooling in children

How to treat drooling in children

It is normal for children to drool. It is not completely related to the development of their organs. As they mature, the drooling phenomenon will stop, so parents do not need to worry. However, for some children, drooling does not improve as they grow older, which requires parents to seek medical attention in time. Of course, there are many folk remedies to treat children's drooling, and parents can also try them.

During the digestion process, saliva, commonly known as spit, has the function of moistening food and making it easier to swallow. At the same time, saliva also contains amylase and lipolytic enzymes, which can ferment and decompose certain nutrients in food and make them absorbable by the human body.

In addition, saliva acts as a natural lubricant, which helps lubricate and balance the acidity in the esophagus. Children and babies, like adults, produce saliva to facilitate the normal digestive process. But while adults and children have the ability to control saliva, babies may not yet have this ability.

Babies haven't learned to swallow the saliva they produce yet, so the saliva just flows around in their mouths or even out. Drooling increases when your baby is four months old, and some experts believe it's a sign that your baby is ready to eat solid food. Also, babies haven't learned to keep their mouths closed, so drool can easily flow out of their open mouths.

Recipe to suppress baby drooling:

1. Add 9 grams of raw Atractylodes macrocephala and 9 grams of Alpinia oxyphylla into water and boil for 30 minutes. When a small bowl of medicinal juice is left, add an appropriate amount of white sugar. Take one dose per day, 2 to 3 times a day.

2. 2 grams of green tea, 12 grams of Atractylodes macrocephala, and 3 grams of licorice. Add 600 ml of water to the last two herbs, boil for 10 minutes, add green tea, take it warm in 3 doses, re-brew and drink, one dose per day.

3. 7 grams of bamboo leaves, 5 grams of tangerine peel, and 5 dates. Boil the above medicine in water and take it in two doses. One dose daily.

4. 10-20 grams of mulberry bark. Add 100 ml of water to the above medicine, boil it down to 60 ml, and take orally in 2 to 3 times. Take one dose per day, 5 doses as a course of treatment.

Press and rub Dicang, Chengjiang, Lianquan, Hegu and Zusanli. Zusanli is located in the depression on the outside of the knee. Four fingers down and one finger width away from the outside of the front bone of the calf is Zusanli. Push Yin and Yang for 5 minutes respectively. Clear the spleen and earth for 5 minutes, clear the thenar eminence for 5 minutes, and clear the heart meridian for 3 minutes. Push in a straight line from the tip to the base of the child's middle finger. Replenish kidney water for 3 minutes and clear Tianhe water for 3 minutes. Tianhe water is on the line in the middle of the back of the arm, which is a straight line from the wrist to the elbow. Parents push along that line from the child's wrist to the elbow. Push the six internal organs for 3 minutes. The six internal organs are on the line of the little finger on the back of the child's forearm. Parents use the thumb or index and middle fingers to push from the elbow to the wrist. Rub Yongquan for 2 minutes.

Perform once a day, 30 minutes each time, 10 times as a course of treatment.

Drooling is a common symptom in children. Therefore, it is easily ignored by doctors and patients, and some parents often just laugh it off. But when this symptom affects the child's daily life and is serious. The parents then anxiously sought medical treatment. Currently, neither Chinese nor Western medicine has a specific drug to control drooling. However, there is a good way to utilize children's meridians.
