Baby's runny nose after fever subsides

Baby's runny nose after fever subsides

Since children are still growing, their resistance will be relatively weak, so family members must take good care of them. They should add or remove clothes for the baby in time according to weather changes, and they should be fed properly. However, it is inevitable for babies to get sick, and fever is a common illness among children. But why do some babies have clear runny noses after the fever subsides? It depends on whether it is caused by a cold.

The severity of a baby's cold varies greatly. In mild cases, there is only clear nasal discharge, nasal congestion, sneezing, or accompanied by tearing, a slight cough, and throat discomfort. It usually heals itself within 3 to 4 days. Sometimes it is also accompanied by fever, sore throat, tonsillitis and swollen lymph nodes. Fever can last from 2 to 3 days to about 1 week. When babies have a cold, they often experience vomiting and diarrhea. In severe cases, the body temperature can reach 39-40℃ or higher, accompanied by systemic symptoms such as chills, headache, general weakness, sharp loss of appetite, and disturbed sleep.

Baby colds are a very common minor ailment, but we must not be careless. If not treated promptly or improperly, it can often cause many complications, the most common of which are sinusitis, stomatitis, laryngitis, otitis media and lymphadenitis. It can also cause retropharyngeal abscess, peritonsillar abscess, tracheitis and pneumonia, etc. Sometimes children's colds can spread throughout the body through the blood circulation, causing serious diseases such as sepsis, empyema, meningitis, etc., which are life-threatening. In addition, it can also cause immune diseases such as myocarditis, rheumatic fever, acute nephritis and other diseases.

Therefore, when a baby catches a cold, parents must follow the doctor's instructions to provide good home care. An important point in home care for babies with colds is to let the child get enough rest. The younger the child is, the more rest he needs, and he can resume free activities only after the symptoms disappear. The second is to take medicine on time. As for most colds, most are caused by viruses, and antibiotics are ineffective. Especially in the early stages of viral infections, antibiotics are not only ineffective, but the abuse of antibiotics can cause dysbiosis in the body, which is conducive to the reproduction of pathogens and aggravates the condition. Taking "Bai Fu Ning" can effectively relieve fever, nasal congestion, cough and other discomforts caused by colds, avoid complications and recover early. Third, when babies have a cold and fever, they should be given liquid food, noodles, porridge and other foods according to their appetite and digestive ability. The frequency of breastfeeding for children should be temporarily reduced to avoid indigestion symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. Fourth, the room should be quiet, the air should be fresh, smoking is prohibited, and the temperature should be constant, not too high, too low, or too humid. More attention should be paid when there are symptoms of laryngitis, so that the child can recover soon. If the fever persists or complications occur, you should go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment in time to avoid accidents.

Causes of cold in babies:

Babies aged 4 to 5 months may also have blocked nose and sneezing. This is often caused by the parents' cold being transmitted to the baby.

6 to 7 months is the period when the antibodies obtained by the baby from the mother gradually disappear. Because the antibodies to various viruses that cause colds disappear, once a cold is caught, it will be more serious. Babies often catch a cold after their father or mother catches a cold. They have a cold when they have sneezing, runny nose, stuffy nose that makes it difficult to feed, and hoarseness.

Colds at this age usually do not cause fever. However, once a fever occurs, it will be higher than the fever at four or five months old, sometimes reaching around 38°C. However, it usually does not last for three or four days, and most of the time the fever will subside within a day or a day and a half. By around the third day, the clear watery nasal discharge turns into yellow purulent nasal discharge, and a mild cough often occurs after the sneezing disappears.

However, before 6 months old, babies will not have a high fever when they have a cold. Although he is unwilling to drink milk, he definitely doesn't refuse to drink at all. At the beginning, the clear watery nasal discharge will turn into thick yellow nasal discharge after 3 to 4 days and the condition will begin to heal.
