What to do if your child has a runny nose

What to do if your child has a runny nose

Children have different physical constitutions, and they show different symptoms when they are sick. Some children recover from a cold in three days, while others cannot get better without taking medicine and may be sick for a week or even ten days, which is very distressing for adults. A minor cold often causes a runny nose. So what should you do if your child has a runny nose? Do I have to take medicine to get better? How to take care of yourself if you don’t take medicine?

Generally speaking, children's runny nose mostly occurs in winter. Due to the low temperature, the pores of the skin will be relatively closed, and the cold air in the child's body cannot be discharged through the pores in time. At this time, these human wastes will flow out in the form of snot. To put it simply, a child's runny nose is actually a form of metabolism.

Use the method to cure the runny nose

1. When parents find that their children have symptoms of clear runny nose, they must first clean the snot with a soft handkerchief or toilet paper, and wipe it as gently as possible, because children's skin is delicate, and rubbing too hard may cause redness and swelling, which may cause dermatitis. For the nasal cavity, you should also use a sanitary cotton swab dipped in water to wipe and clean it carefully.

2. Next, you can consider applying a hot towel to your child. The water temperature should not be too high, preferably not exceeding 43 degrees Celsius. Gently apply the hot towel to the child's nose and around it for about 1 minute. It is recommended to repeat 2 to 3 times.

3. Make sure your children drink more hot water. This method can effectively drive away some of the coldness in the child's body and promote his or her metabolism.

4. Sometimes, a child may have a runny nose because he or she is not wearing enough. At this time, you should pay attention to the temperature of the child's hands, feet and back, observe whether the child is shivering, and then consider whether to add clothes for the child.

Of course, if the child has a runny nose for several days, or the mucus becomes thicker and yellower, then the child is definitely sick. Parents should not delay any longer and take the child to the hospital immediately.
