Children often eat without paying attention to their parents' instructions. If children accidentally eat expired or spoiled food, they may suffer from diarrhea. Children with diarrhea must be treated promptly, because if diarrhea lasts for a long time, it is very likely to cause dehydration, which is very harmful to the child's body. Let’s take a look at the commonly used medicines for treating diarrhea in children.

1. Oral Rehydration Salts III

Ingredients: 0.65 g sodium chloride, 0.725 g sodium citrate, 0.375 g potassium chloride, 3.375 g anhydrous glucose.

Functions and indications: Treat mild and moderate dehydration caused by diarrhea, and can be used to supplement sodium, potassium and chloride.

Medication precautions:

1. Before use, dissolve one bag in 250ml of warm water and take orally at any time. Children should start with 50ml/kg, taken within 4 hours, and then the dose should be adjusted according to the degree of dehydration until the diarrhea stops.

2. This product should be given to infants and young children in small amounts and multiple times. When the dose exceeds 100 ml/kg per day, they should be given drinking water to avoid hypernatremia.

3. Severe dehydration or severe diarrhea should be treated mainly with intravenous rehydration until the diarrhea stops.

4. Stop using the medicine immediately after diarrhea stops.

5. Do not use milk or juice instead of water to dissolve.

2. Bacillus subtilis combined with live bacteria granules (such as Mommy Love)

Ingredients: Enterococcus faecium, Bacillus subtilis, Vitamin C, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Niacinamide, Calcium Lactate, Zinc Oxide.

Functions and indications: Suitable for diarrhea, constipation, flatulence, indigestion, etc. caused by intestinal flora imbalance.

Medication precautions:

1. For children under 2 years old, take 1 bag at a time, 1 to 2 times a day; for children over 2 years old, take 1 to 2 bags at a time, 1 to 2 times a day, with warm water or milk below 40℃. It can also be taken directly, but care should be taken to avoid choking.

2. This product is a live bacteria preparation. Do not place it in a high temperature place. The water temperature should not exceed 40℃ when dissolving.

3. Taking this product together with antibacterial drugs may weaken their efficacy and should be taken separately.

3. Montmorillonite (such as Smectite)

Montmorillonite has a strong fixing and inhibitory effect on viruses, bacteria and the toxins and gases they produce in the digestive tract, making them lose their pathogenic effects; in addition, it protects and repairs the digestive tract mucosa and improves the defense function of the mucosal barrier against attacking factors.

Ingredients: Montmorillonite

Functions and indications: Used for acute and chronic diarrhea in adults and children.

Medication precautions:

1. Children under 1 year old, take 1 bag (3g) daily, divided into 3 times; 1-2 years old, take 1-2 bags daily, divided into 3 times; over 2 years old, take 2-3 bags daily, divided into 3 times. When taking, pour this product into half a cup of warm water (about 50 ml), mix well and drink quickly.

2. Double the initial dose for the treatment of acute diarrhea.

3. If children with acute diarrhea do not improve after taking this product for 1 day or chronic diarrhea after taking this product for 2-3 days, please consult a physician or pharmacist.

4. A small number of people may experience mild constipation.

4. Saccharomyces boulardii powder (Billion Life)

Ingredients: Saccharomyces boulardii

Functions and indications: Used to treat diarrhea in adults and children, and diarrhea symptoms caused by intestinal flora imbalance.

Medication precautions:

1. Children over 3 years old: 1 bag each time (0.25g), twice a day; children under 3 years old: 1 bag each time, once a day.

2. The medicine can be taken together with antibacterial drugs, but not with antifungal drugs.

3. It should not be mixed with boiled water (over 50 degrees) or ice water before taking.

4. When infants take the medicine, you can put the powder in the small bag into a small amount of water or sugar water, mix and swallow it. You can also mix the powder in the small bag into food, but the food should not be too cold or too hot.

5. For severe diarrhea, sufficient fluids are required.

5. Racecadotril granules (such as Durabol)

Ingredients: Racecadotril

Functions and indications: It has the effect of reducing water and electrolyte secretion. It is used for acute diarrhea in infants and children over 1 month old. It can be used in combination with oral rehydration or intravenous rehydration when necessary.

Medication precautions:

1. Infant dosage: 1 to 9 months old (weight [9kg), 10 mg each time (1 packet), 3 times a day; 9 to 30 months old (weight 9 to 13kg), 20 mg each time, 3 times a day. 2. Dosage for children: 30 months to 9 years old (13kg to 27kg), 30 mg each time, 3 times a day; 9 years old and above (weight 27kg), 60 mg each time, 3 times a day. Do not take it continuously for more than 7 days.

2. Patients with impaired liver and kidney function; patients who cannot ingest fructose, have poor absorption of glucose or galactose, or are allergic to racecadotril are contraindicated.

3. This product can be taken with food, water or breast milk.

4. Do not take double dose of this product at one time.

5. Occasionally, drowsiness, rash, constipation, nausea and abdominal pain may occur.
