What to do if your skin itches due to scarlet fever

Scarlet fever causes large rashes on the skin that sometimes itch. It can be relieved by medication. There are many kinds of medication, and each method has certain efficacy. Choose different formulas according to their different functions. There are many formulas for TCM treatment, and the efficacy of each one is different. This drug takes a long time to take effect and can be treated with Western medicine. The side effects are relatively minor.

1. Post-rashes Yinqi: 1 to 2 days after the red sha has appeared, the skin begins to peel off, the body heat gradually subsides, the erosion and pain in the throat also gradually ease, but there is still a low fever, dry lips and mouth, or accompanied by a dry cough, loss of appetite, a red tongue with little fluid, and a thin and rapid pulse.

Treatment method: Nourish yin and produce body fluid, clear away heat and moisten the throat.

Prescription: 10 grams of Adenophora Root, 10 grams of Ophiopogon japonicus, 10 grams of Polygonatum odoratum, 10 grams of Radix Trichosanthis, 3 grams of raw licorice, 10 grams of Phaseolus Bean, and 10 grams of mulberry leaf.

2. Simple prescriptions

(1) 15g each of Isatis indigotica, Isatis indigotica and Achyranthes bidentata root. Take one dose daily, decocted in water. Used for syndrome of evil invading the lung defense.

(2) 15-30g each of Lithospermum officinale and Plantain. Decoction in water and take for 7 consecutive days. It can be used to treat toxic and hot qi syndrome and can also be used for prevention.

6. Chinese patent medicine

(1) Sanhuang Tablets: 2 to 3 tablets each time, 3 times a day. Used for poisonous and hot qi.

(2) Wufu Huadu Pills: 1 pill each time, twice a day. Used for poisonous and hot qi.

3. External treatment

(1) Appropriate amounts of honeysuckle, sophora flavescens, selfheal, green fruit, young chrysanthemum leaves, and mint leaves. Gargle with the decoction 2 to 3 times a day. Used for sore throat.

(2) Use jade key powder or tin powder and blow into throat. 2 to 3 times a day. Used for sore throat.

(3) Jinbuhuan Powder or Zhuhuang Powder, blow into throat. 2 to 3 times a day. Used for throat erosion and suppuration.

Western medicine treatment

(1) Antibiotic therapy: Penicillin is the drug of choice for the treatment of scarlet fever and all streptococcal infections. Early use can shorten the course of the disease and reduce complications. 40,000 to 80,000 U/(kg·d), injected in 2 doses. The dosage may be increased in severe cases. To completely eliminate pathogens and reduce complications, the treatment course should be at least 10 days. For those who are allergic to penicillin G, erythromycin 20-40 mg/(kg·d) can be taken orally in 3 divided doses. In severe cases, it can also be given intravenously. The course of treatment is 7-10 days.

(2) Symptomatic treatment: High fever can be treated with a smaller dose of antipyretic or physical cooling methods. For older children with sore throat, they can gargle with normal saline or take chlorphenamine lozenges.
