There is a lump on the child's neck

If a child has a lump on his neck, the most likely cause is swollen cervical lymph nodes. The neck is an area where lymph nodes are more abundantly distributed. As an important component of the body's immune system, once a problem occurs, the impact is relatively large. To determine whether the lump on a child’s neck is caused by enlarged cervical lymph nodes, we need to have some understanding of this disease and make a comprehensive judgment based on the child’s condition.

Clinical manifestations

There are multiple enlarged lymph nodes of varying sizes on one or both sides of the neck, generally located at the anterior and posterior edges of the sternocleidomastoid muscle. In the early stages, the swollen lymph nodes are hard, painless, and can be moved. As the lesion continues to develop, lymphadenitis occurs, causing the lymph nodes to adhere to the skin and surrounding tissues. The lymph nodes may also adhere to each other and fuse into clumps, forming nodular masses that are difficult to move. In the late stage, the lymph nodes undergo caseous necrosis and liquefaction, forming cold abscesses. After the abscess ruptures, bean curd-like or rice soup-like pus flows out. Finally, a sinus tract or chronic ulcer that does not heal for a long time is formed, the skin at the edge of the ulcer is dark red and undercover, and the granulation tissue is pale and edematous. The above-mentioned lesions at different stages may appear simultaneously in various lymph nodes of the same patient. After the patient's disease resistance is enhanced and appropriate treatment is given, tuberculosis lesions in the lymph nodes can stop developing and calcify.

A small number of patients may have symptoms of systemic poisoning such as low fever, night sweats, loss of appetite, and weight loss.

Western medicine

Western medicine can be used first. For those who are allergic to penicillin and streptomycin, erythromycin or metronidazole can be used. Western medicine has a shorter treatment cycle, quick results, and can relieve symptoms, but it cannot completely cure the disease from the root.

Folk remedies

1. Take an appropriate amount of fresh chrysanthemum leaves, add a little brown sugar, mash them, apply to the affected area, change them twice a day.

2. Grind 50 grams of Garcinia into powder, put it in a bottle, add 300 ml of 75% alcohol, cover tightly, shake it, and apply the liquid to the affected area with a cotton ball 3 to 4 times. This is used when there is no suppuration.

Food therapy

Purslane, Chrysanthemum, Mung Bean Porridge

Soak mung beans for half a day, wash and chop purslane, and dry and grind chrysanthemum into powder. After the mung beans are half cooked, add purslane and japonica rice and simmer until it becomes porridge. Add chrysanthemum powder and cook for a while. Take it twice a day. This method has the medicinal effect of clearing away heat, detoxifying and removing dampness, and can be used to treat acute lymphangitis, in which one or several thread-like red lines appear on the wound of the lower limbs, which are hard and tender.

Water Chestnut Porridge

Peel and slice the water chestnuts, put them into the pot together with the washed glutinous rice, add water and cook over low heat for porridge. Take it twice a day. It can clear away heat and promote salivation.

Mainly used to treat acute lymphangitis. Note: Water chestnut extract has an inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus.

Snow Soup

50-100 grams each of water chestnuts and jellyfish (soaked and salted), boil them into a soup and drink it in 2-3 times. This is the "Xue Geng Soup" by Wang Shixiong, a famous doctor in the Qing Dynasty. It has the effects of clearing heat and resolving phlegm, eliminating accumulation and softening hard masses, and lowering blood pressure. It can be used to treat phlegm-heat cough, lymph tuberculosis, and primary hypertension.

2. Maintain a good attitude, stable emotions, have healthy eating habits, eat more fruits and vegetables, etc., to improve your immunity.

3. Keep away from smoke, alcohol, drugs, radiation, pesticides, noise, volatile harmful gases, toxic and harmful heavy metals, etc.

4. Stay optimistic and in a good mood, and avoid anger, depression, and excessive thinking.

5. Exercise actively, exercise reasonably, and enhance physical fitness.
