Sleep myoclonus in children

Sleep myoclonus in children

Sleep myoclonus in children is a type of epilepsy unique to infancy. It occurs when the child is very young and the pattern of convulsions is very special. Sleep myoclonus in children is very harmful. Most children have obvious intellectual, physical and developmental disabilities. This disease is not easy to treat. After being diagnosed with sleep myoclonus in children, active treatment should be sought and regular care measures should be taken.

Most children with sleep myoclonus still need to use medication for treatment. The most commonly used drug is hormone. This type of hormone drug needs to be administered by intravenous injection. Only once a day is needed, but it must be injected continuously for about four weeks. Only in this way can the child's convulsions slowly stop. After the convulsions stop, the medication cannot be stopped immediately. Small doses of hormone drugs are still needed to maintain it. Only in this way can the disease not recur. Sometimes patients can also use other anti-epileptic drugs, such as valproic acid.

If children develop this disease, the first thing they will notice is that the muscles throughout their body begin to spasm, especially in the neck and bends of the legs. The spasms will be more severe and even completely out of control. This situation will occur more often when the child is sleeping, and the child will feel extreme pain every time it happens.

Sometimes you will find your child nodding. This nodding is continuous and they cannot stop nodding by themselves, so they will keep nodding. However, this situation only lasts for a relatively short time. Generally speaking, it is difficult to notice if you don't pay much attention.

In addition, the child may suddenly fall while walking normally, which puts the child at risk of injury. Therefore, it is common to see children with sleep myoclonus with many scars on their bodies. These are all caused by falling unconsciously, but the attacks occur more frequently before going to bed, and the child is in a state of continuous attack.

Children will become depressed after suffering from this disease, and if the disease is serious, they may develop inferiority complex. This makes the child dislike playing with children of the same age, which is very detrimental to the improvement of the disease. Therefore, parents should find out the cause of their children's disease in time and find corresponding treatment methods.
