Vestibular dysplasia in children

Vestibular dysplasia in children

If children have problems with their diet or lifestyle, it is easy to cause vestibular dysfunction. For example, we often say that a certain child has ADHD, cannot stay idle all day, and keeps making small movements in class. The teacher is also helpless with such elementary school students. Such children are likely to have problems with vestibular development. What other symptoms of vestibular dysplasia occur in children?

The main manifestations of vestibular disorder are: being restless, having difficulty concentrating, not paying attention in class, making small movements, hearing but not seeing, not feeling dizzy after turning for a long time, poor balance, often bumping into seats, doors and windows even though they can see, eyes easily sore, hate reading, fidgeting with bad posture, unable to be quiet, likes to climb high but dare not walk on the balance beam, irritable mood, and being jumpy and nervous when doing things.

Children with poor vestibular sense will have poor concentration. Preschool children may not show this problem or it may not be obvious. After children enter elementary school, they need to sit quietly in class for a whole class. If they cannot concentrate, their grades will not keep up, and they will have low self-esteem and lack of self-confidence, which will seriously affect their future academic and even career development.

The vestibular sense senses the influence of gravity on us, and it will play a role as long as a person moves. Normal vestibular sense will not affect us, but once a child has a problem with vestibular sense, the ability to sense gravity will be poor, which will affect the child's balance and coordination ability, and make the child in a state of fear. The child's body posture is not maintained well, and he is afraid of wolves before and tigers after doing things. This will cause emotional problems for a long time and affect the child's self-confidence.

Vestibular disorder has a great impact on children, so it is particularly important to conduct vestibular training too early. Nowadays, due to the doting of parents, the increase in caesarean sections, and the restricted activities of children in cities, the children have very little chance to receive natural training. Sensory integration disorder will not disappear naturally as children grow older and requires necessary correction. Especially for children with vestibular disorders, as the academic pressure increases in the future, the problem of concentration will become more prominent. For the sake of children's future, please give them a happier and healthier childhood.

Except for lying flat, the vestibular system is performing tasks most of the time. In other words, the vestibular system is closely related to the operation of many nervous systems. For example, a focused gaze in class is the result of the combined effects of vestibular-kinesthetic and visual perception.

Recommendation: It is best to use a cradle or rock the baby frequently during infancy to exercise the baby's vestibular sense. Older children can play more activities such as electric carousel, electric toys, skateboards, swings, trampolines, etc. These are very helpful for children. If a child with vestibular sensitivity shows reactions such as nausea and vomiting, parents should give the child psychological support and encourage the child to persist in these activities. As long as protection is strengthened appropriately and step by step, children will gradually adapt and improve.
