What causes rough skin on children’s legs?

Everyone wants their skin to be smooth and delicate, so that they will look pleasing to the eye. However, this idea is not always fulfilled, even for children. Some parents will find that the skin on their children's legs is not smooth, but very dry and rough. So what causes the rough skin on children's legs, and how can it be relieved?

What are the reasons for uneven skin on the legs?

(1) This is a hereditary skin disease caused by keratinization of the hair follicles, which affects the growth of vellus hair. Therefore, the skin surface feels rough and like goose bumps. Indeed, there is a curly hair in each small papule. There is currently no cure for this disease, but appropriate use of some medications can improve the condition.

(2) From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, keratosis pilaris is mainly caused by liver qi stagnation, liver wood overcoming earth, and spleen and stomach weakness. As we all know, the spleen and stomach are the foundation of acquired constitution. A weak spleen and stomach will inevitably lead to malnutrition of the skin and eventually cause this disease.

(3) This disease is a dominant inheritance caused by mutation of the 12th pair of chromosomes in the human body. In addition, the symptoms are also related to hypothyroidism, vitamin A deficiency, etc.

Due to keratinization at the opening of the sebaceous gland duct of the hair follicle, the so-called "keratin plug" is formed, which will cause the pores to be blocked after hardening. The appearance is small pinpoint-like papules, which are scattered and are skin-colored, reddish brown or brown in color. Most of the rashes are painless and itchy. The appearance is very similar to "goose bumps", which are rough and sandpaper-like, feel rough and look more annoying, but goose bumps are caused by the contraction of the arrector pili muscles caused by climate, emotions, etc., which is a temporary skin change; while the papules formed by keratosis pilaris are a persistent condition.

What to do if the skin on your legs is dry and looks like fish scales

1. First of all, you need to change your bathing habits. Temporarily put away the bath lotion containing cooling substances and take out the moisturizing bath lotion. Do not use soap with strong alkaline properties, otherwise your skin will easily become dry and flaky.

Try using olive oil in your skin care products. Vitamins A, D and E in olive oil have a good therapeutic effect on dry and allergic skin.

2. Apply moisturizer after bathing, and be sure to do so every day.

3. You should drink more water to replenish the water loss of the body and skin. In addition, a reasonable diet structure can improve your physical condition and delay aging. Since the human body fluids are weakly alkaline, consuming more alkaline foods such as vegetables, fruits, soy products, milk, etc. can make the skin delicate and shiny. Be careful to reduce the intake of acidic foods, such as meat, fish, chocolate, onions and garlic.
