What ointment to use for baby heat rash

Baby heat rash is a skin problem caused by hot weather and high temperatures. This disease has another more common name: prickly heat. Prickly heat can cause unbearable itching for babies. If parents do not provide timely care and the baby scratches the affected area, it will cause greater harm to the baby. So, what medicine can relieve the symptoms of baby heat rash? The answers will be given below!

1. What ointment should be used for baby heat rash?

Heat rash does not require medication, its main function is to keep the skin dry. Give your child a bath and dry him off, he will get better. Antibiotic ointment is not necessary unless impetigo has already occurred. Only when eczema shows ulcers and exudation, it is necessary to use hormone (such as hydrocortisone) ointment and antibiotic (such as Bactroban) ointment in combination.

2. Causes

1. Children need to lower their body temperature by sweating. If you sweat too much, your pores will be clogged and sweat cannot be discharged from the body, causing prickly heat. Babies and young children are particularly susceptible to prickly heat because their pores are smaller than those of adults.

2. Hot, humid weather can easily cause prickly heat, but it can also occur in winter. For example, if a child is covered with too many layers of clothes or has a fever, the baby may sweat profusely and develop prickly heat.

3. Daily care

1. Cool down the child. Untie or take off your baby's clothes and take him to a ventilated room or shaded area. You can also place it on a cotton towel to help absorb sweat. Apply a cool, wet washcloth to the affected area. Giving your baby a lukewarm bath with a little sodium bicarbonate (baking soda, edible alkali), 4 to 4.5 teaspoons per 10 liters of water (about 2 teaspoons per gallon of water), can also relieve prickly heat.

2. After bathing, let the baby's body dry naturally and do not wipe it with a towel. Do not apply ointment or cream to prickly heat, as this will prevent moisture from evaporating and make the prickly heat worse.

3. On hot nights, you can turn on the air conditioner or electric fan in the child’s room. The fan should be directed toward the child, but not directly toward him. Or place the fan farther away, as long as there is a gentle breeze blowing on the child. The main thing is to make the child feel comfortable, but don't let him catch a cold!

4. Be sure to trim your child's nails to prevent them from scratching their skin when they have itchy prickly heat.
