What to do if your child has rhinitis and is blocked

Sometimes we see babies breathing through their mouths, but this is actually caused by a blocked nose. There are many reasons for a baby's nasal congestion, such as rhinitis, dry nasal mucosa, temporary nasal congestion, long-term nasal congestion, etc. However, parents must pay attention that a baby's nasal congestion does not necessarily mean a cold. Babies with colds will have nasal congestion, poor mental ability, reduced milk intake, more or less sleep, etc.

Causes of stuffy nose in baby :

Baby's nasal congestion can be divided into temporary nasal congestion and chronic nasal congestion. Temporary nasal congestion can be quickly resolved with care, but if the baby has nasal congestion repeatedly for a long time, he should go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment.

Temporary nasal congestion

It may be caused by excessive nasal discharge and runny nose due to a cold. For the former, the key is to remove the secretions in the baby's nose; for the latter, the nasal mucosa undergoes acute edema, causing nasal congestion, and the key is to cure the primary disease.

Chronic nasal congestion

Children with allergic rhinitis often have nasal congestion and runny nose. Rhinitis is difficult to cure completely, so prevention is better than cure for babies' nasal congestion caused by rhinitis. Another reason is foreign body blockage, which in most cases is blockage of one side of the nasal cavity, poor ventilation, and even purulent or bloody nasal discharge with a foul odor. In this case, you must seek medical treatment in time.

What to do if your baby has a stuffy nose

If your baby has severe nasal congestion that affects his breathing, you can use 0.5% ephedrine furacillin drops carefully under the guidance of a doctor. It usually takes a few minutes to work. However, ephedrine has side effects on babies and is not suitable for excessive or long-term use, so as to avoid causing atrophic rhinitis and affecting the olfactory sensitivity of the nose.

If your baby has a lot of purulent nasal discharge, you can ask the doctor to do replacement therapy to clear out the purulent secretions in the sinuses. When giving medication to your baby, you must do so under the guidance of a doctor to avoid harming the baby's health. Home remedies for baby's stuffy nose:

1. Decoction and fumigation method: chop a handful of scallion or three or four shallots into pieces and boil them into a soup. Inhale the hot steam with your nose, or boil vinegar and inhale the vinegar vapor. Both methods have better therapeutic effects.

2. Filling method: Mash the scallion whites and extract its juice to soak into cotton wool, then stuff the cotton wool into the nostrils. Alternatively, cut a garlic clove into a cylinder slightly smaller than the nostrils, wrap it with a thin layer of cotton or gauze and stuff it into the nostrils. This also has a good effect.

3. Side-lying massage method: If you have left ear congestion, lie on your right side; if you have right nasal congestion, lie on your left side. Use two fingers to pinch your nose and massage the Yingxiang points on both sides for 1 to 2 minutes, and the nasal congestion can be removed.

4. Hot compress method: Apply a hot towel to the nose, or use a hair dryer to blow hot air towards the nostrils, blowing on both sides of the temples, Fengchi acupoint, and Dazhui acupoint, which can relieve nasal congestion.

5. Position change method: This method is suitable for babies. When a baby has a stuffy nose, he often cries non-stop. At this time, the baby can be held upright and he will soon fall asleep peacefully.
