If a child foams at the mouth while sleeping and snores at the same time, parents must not underestimate this problem, because it may mean that there are certain problems with the child's body. Enlarged tonsils, narrow nasal passages, respiratory inflammation, obesity, poor sleeping posture, adenoids hypertrophy, food accumulation and respiratory tract infection can all cause children to snore while sleeping. Parents must promptly investigate the cause and solve the problem! 1. Swollen tonsilsDuring infancy, the baby's pharynx is rich in lymphoid tissue, also known as proliferative bodies. If the proliferation is too large, it is called proliferative body hypertrophy. Enlarged tonsils or adenoids can cause narrowing of the throat, leading to snoring during sleep, snoring, mouth breathing, and even respiratory arrest. 2. Nasal stenosis The baby's pharynx is short and the nasal passages are narrow, so they are easily blocked by the slightest secretion or swelling of the mucosa. Babies under six months old often have nasal sounds, nasal congestion or phlegm in the throat, which is caused by this reason.
Inflammation of the upper respiratory tract and chronic sinusitis can cause congestion and edema of the nasal mucosa, abnormal hypertrophy of the tonsils, obstruction of nasopharyngeal ventilation, inability to breathe through the nose during sleep, and snoring with breathing. 4. Obesity The soft flesh structure of the throat of obese babies is thicker, and the oropharyngeal airway is easily blocked during sleep, causing snoring, and even sleep apnea in severe cases. 5. Poor sleeping posture For example, when a baby sleeps on his back, the root of the tongue falls back due to gravity, and the respiratory tract is partially blocked. When air flows in and out of the nasal cavity, oropharynx and throat, the nearby mucous membranes or muscles vibrate and produce snoring sounds.
The adenoids are lymphoid tissue located on the posterior wall of the nasopharynx. Due to repeated stimulation of the upper respiratory tract, they become pathologically hypertrophic and exist together with chronic tonsillitis. Enlarged adenoid tissue can partially or completely block a child's nasopharyngeal cavity, causing poor airflow and leading to snoring during sleep. 7. Indigestion and respiratory tract infection When children have overeating, their stomachs and intestines will feel uncomfortable and they will not sleep well, which will lead to snoring while sleeping. On the other hand, when children have respiratory infections, they can only breathe through their mouths, which can also cause snoring. |
