What to do if a child hits his head

What to do if a child hits his head

Everyone knows that children are more naughty. Many children don’t like to stay at home and prefer to jump outside. It is inevitable that there will be bumps and bruises when you are outside. Some children accidentally fall and hit something, causing a bump on the head. A bump on the head is not easy to heal, and certain treatments need to be taken. Let’s take a look at what you should do if a child has a bump on the head?

Tools/Materials: Fragrance oil, ice cubes, towel

Methods/Steps

First of all, no matter where the child hits the bump, you must not touch it with your hands after the bump forms. If it breaks, you can cover the wound with a towel to stop the bleeding. Be sure to go to the hospital for timely treatment. If it is not broken, a bump will appear at the bump site.

After the blisters appear, regardless of whether there is blood clots inside, apply cold compress first to prevent the blisters from swelling bigger. Generally, families with children should always keep some ice cubes in their refrigerators. Use a towel to keep the ice cubes and gently apply ice compresses to the blisters on the child's head.

The ice compress time does not need to be too long. If the child cries loudly, do not continue to apply the ice compress. Wait until the child's emotions have calmed down before applying the ice compress again. Because ice is very cold, it is recommended not to apply ice compress to a large area of the head, just the small blisters. You can apply ice compress within 24 hours. Wait 24 hours before applying heat.

When applying hot compress, simply rinse the towel with warm water, wring it dry, and apply it to the bump on the child's head. You can apply it several times a day. After all, a warm towel can promote blood circulation, relieve congestion in the wound and injured subcutaneous tissue. The swelling will disappear after a few days, but the blood stasis may take a few more days to disappear, so parents don't need to worry.

An elder also told me about an experience that if a child bumps his head, you can rub the bulge with sesame oil, which will prevent the bulge from expanding and soothe the injured area. I also tried it when I was a kid and there was nothing abnormal about it. It was indeed effective in eliminating redness and swelling.

If a child gets bumped or bruised, it is generally not a big problem if he cries. If he does not cry or make a fuss, take the child to the hospital in time to see if the head was hit too hard and an accident occurred. Don't be careless. In addition, within 3 days after the bump, parents should pay attention to whether their child is still as happy playing as before, and whether his or her child becomes sleepy. If the child becomes listless, they should seek medical attention in time.

Precautions

1. Teach your child to kneel down after falling down to avoid hitting his head.

Parents should pay special attention to the safety of children aged 1-3 years old.
