Red rash on back of baby's neck

Red rash on back of baby's neck

As the baby grows, his hair will become longer and longer. When it grows to a certain length, the baby needs a haircut. However, some parents find red spots on the back of their children's necks when they are cutting their children's hair. The existence of this abnormal phenomenon will definitely make parents very anxious, fearing that there is something wrong with their children's health. So, what is the cause of the red spots on the back of the baby’s neck? Let’s take a look at the reasons below.

"Crane kiss marks" can appear on a baby's scalp, or on the skin from the neck to the back or across the eyelids, or even as pink patches anywhere on the human body. As long as they are distributed near the midline of the human body, they are called "crane kiss marks." The origin of the name "Crane Kiss" is a mythological story. Legend has it that cranes always steal babies by the back or neck.

"Crane kiss" has another name "Angel kiss" because according to legend, angels kiss babies on their eyelids. In fact, they are all caused by too many tiny blood vessels in the surface layer of the skin. When a baby cries or has a fever, the blood vessels become filled and the patches become redder. About one-third of babies are born with "crane kisses" and "angel kisses". These disappear within 18 months as the baby grows older. Only some crane kisses on the back of the neck may persist for a lifetime, but they do not cause any harm to the child.

Therefore, there is no need to do any treatment for these spots. These normal pigmentations will most likely disappear gradually over time. Parents do not need to be too anxious and can consult a doctor when their children are older. The erythema in some parts of the body will gradually deepen in color and rise above the skin as the baby grows. This is a typical hemangioma. Many small hemangiomas will gradually shrink and disappear within 2 and a half years of age. However, it is still recommended to see a dermatologist as soon as possible and use topical or oral medications to shrink or eliminate the hemangioma as soon as possible to avoid abnormalities in local skin texture and other parts, which will affect future appearance. Hemangiomas in exposed parts, in particular, should be treated actively and as early as possible.
