What are the adverse reactions to hand, foot and mouth disease vaccination?

In the past few years, large-scale outbreaks of hand, foot and mouth disease have occurred in some countries, which has given people a new understanding of this disease. In fact, the reason for this situation is also related to the local medical insurance work. If the babies can be vaccinated in time, such a situation can be completely avoided. So, what are the adverse reactions to hand, foot and mouth vaccination? What side effects will it bring?

Side effects of hand, foot and mouth vaccine

Hand, foot and mouth disease vaccine is an inactivated EV71 vaccine. It is a new type of vaccine. The technology it uses is mature and safe, the risks are controllable, and the positive significance of vaccination is obvious. However, there is a possibility of adverse reactions when injecting vaccines, but most of them are relatively mild and most of them occur within 48 hours after vaccination.

No toxic reaction to hand, foot and mouth vaccine

There are strict regulations for the transportation and storage of vaccines, namely 2 to 8 cold chain refrigeration, otherwise they will lose their effectiveness or their effectiveness will decrease, but they will hardly cause serious toxic reactions.

Adverse reactions to vaccination

The inactivated vaccine technology is mature and reliable. Although this vaccine is a new product, its adverse reactions are similar to those of other inactivated vaccines. Symptoms include occasional fever and more rarely mild reactions such as local pain and swelling, which generally resolve on their own.

People who are not suitable for vaccination

It is contraindicated for people who are allergic to any substance in the vaccine, those with fever, acute illness, severe chronic diseases, or allergic constitutions (such as allergy to protein).

Since hand, foot and mouth disease is caused by multiple enteroviruses, the hand, foot and mouth disease vaccines currently produced can only prevent hand, foot and mouth disease caused by enterovirus 71 infection, but cannot prevent hand, foot and mouth disease caused by other enterovirus infections. However, most hand, foot and mouth diseases are now caused by enterovirus type 71, so the hand, foot and mouth disease vaccines on the market can still prevent hand, foot and mouth disease. However, in clinical trials, some adverse reactions occurred after vaccination with the hand, foot and mouth disease vaccine.

In clinical trials, local reactions after vaccination mainly manifested as redness, induration, pain, swelling, and itching at the injection site. They were mainly mild, lasted no more than 3 days, and could be resolved on their own. The main systemic reactions include fever, diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, irritability, etc., which are transient. Although vaccination will make the baby uncomfortable, the results of clinical trials show that there is no significant difference in all symptoms with a severity of level 3 or above (such as fever, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, etc.) compared with the control group. This shows that the enterovirus 71 hand, foot and mouth disease vaccine is very safe.

If parents decide to vaccinate their baby with hand, foot and mouth disease vaccine, they should note that the hand, foot and mouth disease vaccine currently on the market is for infants and children aged 6 months to 3 years old, and it is not recommended for children over 5 years old.
