Children's toenails peeling

Children's toenails peeling

Toenails can often reflect the health of the body. A normal child's toenails are generally arc-shaped, smooth, pink and translucent. Some mothers found some abnormal phenomena on their children's toenails when trimming their toenails or washing their feet, such as toenails peeling. Why do healthy toenails suddenly become peeling? Let us find the answer together from the following text.

1. Causes of peeling of children's toenails

1. Drying

The child's nails are currently stratified, which is generally due to being too dry. Pay attention to care and wash hands frequently.

Suggestion: Eat more fruits and vegetables, use hand cream on your child, and take some calcium supplements for treatment and then observe.

2. Calcium deficiency

The symptom of children's peeling toenails is considered to be due to calcium deficiency or nail malnutrition. You can choose to give your child appropriate calcium supplements for treatment.

Suggestion: You need to pay attention to proper physical exercise in your daily life. You can take calcium lactate granules, combine it with pork ribs soup, and get more sun exposure.

3. Onychomycosis

The peeling of children's toenails may be caused by onychomycosis, which is a fungal skin disease caused by dermatophytes invading the nail plate and is contagious. It causes the nails to become deformed, thickened, easily fall off, and separate.

Recommendation: Most cases of onychomycosis can be cured. The commonly used method is to take itraconazole or terbinafine for local treatment. Use a small sharp knife to scrape off the brittle diseased nails, or thin the thickened diseased nails, and then apply 10% iodine or 30% glacial acetic acid solution.

2. Causes of onychomycosis in children's toes

1. Nails are too long

If children's nails are too long, they may develop the habit of biting their nails. This bad habit will often lead to nail deformity, damage the nail bed, cause bleeding or infection, damage the nail plate, shorten the nail plate, make the edges uneven, make the nail plate rough, and lose its original luster. If the nail groove is invaded, it may cause paronychia. The development of paronychia can directly lead to the occurrence of onychomycosis.

2. Not paying attention to personal hygiene

When children's nails grow long, they are prone to harbour dirt and may split. Children who do not pay attention to personal hygiene are also prone to onychomycosis.

3. Poor resistance

Children have poor physical resistance and live in a poor environment, which makes it easy for bacteria to breed and cause onychomycosis.

3. What to do if children’s toenails peel

1. It is recommended that the hospital's hematology department draw blood to check the trace element status, and supplement it according to the test results to strengthen the nutritional balance of the diet. Be sure to insist on giving your child calcium supplements. You can take children's cod liver oil drops and glucose, and get more sun exposure.

2. For symptoms of mild inflammation and short course of illness, gentian violet or alcohol can be used for disinfection; for those who have already become suppurative, you can take anti-inflammatory drugs such as cefradine capsules and apply anti-inflammatory plasters to the inflamed areas. Severe cases require surgical treatment.

3. Onychomycosis is caused by infection from a large class of microorganisms called pathogenic fungi. Common methods include scraping off brittle diseased nails with a small sharp knife, or thinning thickened diseased nails, and then applying iodine or glacial acetic acid solution.
