Why does a child have thick and sticky nasal mucus?

Everyone has experienced a runny nose. Children have poorer resistance and weaker ability to fight disease, so they are more likely to have a runny nose. The situation of a runny nose is actually very complicated. If a child's snot is thick and the amount is large, it may be accompanied by symptoms such as dizziness and headache. At this time, the cause should be comprehensively judged based on the child's many symptoms.

Why does a child have thick and sticky nasal mucus?

There are basically three types of runny nose in children: clear runny nose, white sticky runny nose, and yellow runny nose. Runny nose is a self-defense phenomenon caused by cold air invading the lungs. Runny nose, like sweat and tears, is a way to regulate cold and heat in the body. Children have short airways and are more likely to have a runny nose, which is normal. In some cases, a runny nose is actually a good thing. For example, if you have a cold or a high fever, a runny nose means the illness is getting better.

It should be noted that runny nose is a very normal reaction and cannot be treated with medication in general, let alone Western medicine suppressive cold medicines. Those medicines only suppress the body's runny nose function and cannot eliminate the problem. Over time, cold air accumulates in the body, and you will continue to get sick and become weaker and weaker.

Several stages of runny nose

1/ Clear runny nose. Children's crying and sadness will invade the lung qi and cause runny nose. Don't worry about it, just drink more water.

2/ When you encounter a cold, the cold air will first enter your body, causing you to sneeze and have a runny nose. If you have just discovered it, immediately drink plenty of hot water or wipe your face with hot water to enhance your body's ability to resist the cold. If it has been going on for a long time, or the cold air has blocked your pores, making it impossible to sweat and leaving you with a runny nose, you can boil water with hot foods such as ginger, scallions, cinnamon, etc. to generate heat and sweat, thereby removing the cold air.

3/ If your nasal discharge lasts for a long time, it will damage the body fluids and generate heat in the body, or if the body's resistance is basically successful, the nasal discharge will become sticky. At this time, just drink more hot water.

4/ The nasal discharge turns yellow. This is caused by excessive use of hot medicines, too long illness, or Yin deficiency after illness, which leads to rising of virtual fire. Depending on the severity of the disease, you can use boiled water, chrysanthemum water, or honeysuckle water to adjust the condition step by step. In addition, eat more foods that promote salivation.

Runny nose is not a disease, so do not take medicine at will, especially western medicine. If there are other symptoms that cannot be controlled, you can see a doctor for a solution, but the recommended principle is not to use suppressive drugs, but to use methods that assist the body for treatment. Washing your face with cold water regularly can enhance your ability to resist cold.
