My 6-year-old child cannot speak clearly

My 6-year-old child cannot speak clearly

There are many babies who cannot speak clearly. Generally, they are younger children. This is because their parents do not communicate enough with their children, which leads to their children not speaking clearly. Some children cannot speak clearly at the age of 6. In this case, parents should take their children to the hospital for examination. If they are sick, they should be treated as soon as possible. If they are not sick, the child may lack speaking training. Parents should communicate with their children frequently and the situation will gradually improve.

1. Why do children not pronounce words clearly?

First, a hearing test should be performed to rule out hearing impairment. If a child has hearing problems and suffers from high-frequency hearing loss, he or she will not be able to hear clearly words containing the sounds z, c, and s in pinyin, which will affect 95% of the speech clarity, so the child will learn fewer words and pronounce them incorrectly. Current newborn hearing screening technology can perform hearing tests on infants and young children 3 days after birth, determine their hearing status within 3 months, and provide hearing rehabilitation and enhanced language training before they begin babbling (within 1 year old). Instead of waiting until the child is 2 to 3 years old or even later, when he or she cannot speak or speaks unclearly, we discover that the child has poor hearing. By then, the child's tongue muscles are already stiff and the peak period of language development in the brain has passed. It is a long and arduous road for the child to perceive sounds, perceive language, understand and speak normally.

The second is abnormality of articulation organs: abnormality of the structure of articulation organs is relatively rare. It is often caused by poor family language environment, which makes it difficult for children to speak (functional abnormality). Common situations are that parents are busy with work day and night, entrusting their children to the care of the elderly or nannies, and not communicating often. The family lacks sufficient emotional, maternal love and other sensory stimulation or is over-indulgent and restrained. At the same time, the coexistence of southern and northern dialects in the family will cause children to have difficulty in understanding and expressing, affecting language development. Generally, the pronunciation will be clear after individualized speech training and family guidance.

Furthermore, children's psychological and behavioral problems, such as autism, stuttering, selective mutism, etc., need to be diagnosed and treated in a professional hospital.

2. Treatment mainly includes etiological treatment, language training and psychotherapy.

Some parents think that if their children start speaking late, are spoiled, have unclear enunciation and inaccurate pronunciation, they will get better as they grow up and it is not necessarily a problem. However, there are many children who come to the doctor for unclear speech at the age of three or four and are eventually diagnosed with abnormalities. In several cases, the parents were reminded by kindergarten teachers. In addition, most parents only raise one child in their lifetime, so it is difficult for them to judge how early or late the child starts to speak and whether the child is good or bad. If you have any questions, it is better to go to the hospital for treatment in time.
