Why does my child's buttocks itch?

Parents often hear their children say that their anus is often itchy. The itching of the anus area on the buttocks may be caused by factors such as inflammation or bacterial infection. It is not ruled out that many children do not wipe their toilets clean in time after going to the toilet, or have worms in their stomachs, which infect the anus during defecation, all of which may cause itching.

Early manifestations

The early symptoms of anal itching are: itching limited to the skin around the anus, sometimes mild, sometimes severe, sometimes stinging or burning, sometimes like crawling insects and ants, sometimes like mosquito bites and fire, sometimes extremely itchy and worse at night, making people restless. Due to the itching, the skin ulcers, exudates, and scabs, which do not heal for a long time, resulting in thickening of the perianal skin, thickening and roughening of the wrinkles with radial folds, lichenification, pigmentation or depigmentation, and spreading to the perineum, scrotum, labia or sacrum. If the disease persists for a long time, chapped skin may easily develop. Over time it can cause neurasthenia, mental atrophy, loss of taste for food, and insomnia.

Pathological etiology

1. Rectal diseases: anal fistula, hemorrhoids, anal sinusitis, anal papillitis, rectal prolapse, anal incontinence, etc., which increase the secretions from the anus and irritate the skin with moisture, causing itching.

2. Skin disease factors: such as anal eczema, neurodermatitis, ringworm, various warts, sexually transmitted diseases, sweat glanditis, etc., feces adhere to the anal folds, irritate the skin and cause itching.

3. Parasitic diseases: can also easily cause anal itching.

1. Systemic causes

1. Allergic reaction: If you eat irritating foods, such as peppers, mustard, spices, wine or specific protein foods, or take certain medications, such as antibiotics, you may experience anal itching due to allergies.

2. Parasitic diseases: such as exuviae, ascariasis, vaginal trichomoniasis, pubic lice, scabies, etc., can all cause anal itching.

3. Endocrine and metabolic diseases: For example, the sugar content in the skin of diabetic patients increases, which stimulates the nerve endings and causes itching; the itching of the skin in hyperthyroidism may be related to excessive sweating, increased basal metabolic rate, and emotional tension.

4. Blood diseases: iron deficiency anemia, etc.

5. Gastrointestinal diseases: acute and chronic diarrhea, constipation, gastrointestinal neurosis, etc.
