Why does the baby fart but not poop?

Why does the baby fart but not poop?

Mothers often worry that their babies have not defecated for several days. Once the baby is constipated, mothers often feel anxious and even at a loss. If your baby doesn't poop, it may be caused not only by constipation but also by constipation. Generally speaking, as long as the baby's stool is not dry or uncomfortable, and his mental state is generally good, it is very likely that the baby is holding in bowel movements. In this case, mothers really don't need to worry too much.

1. Reasons why babies don’t have bowel movements

1. Insufficient diet: Eating too little will result in less bowel movements. Long-term insufficient diet can lead to malnutrition and cause stubborn constipation.

2. Poor food composition structure: This is closely related to the nature of the stool. If the protein content in the food is too high or there is a lack of residue in the food, it can cause constipation.

3. Intestinal dysfunction: Irregular life and lack of regular bowel movement habits lead to failure to form a conditioned reflex of defecation, which eventually leads to intestinal muscle relaxation and constipation. Various chronic diseases can cause intestinal wall muscle weakness and dysfunction, which may also cause constipation.

4. Disease factors: Anal fissure, anal stenosis, etc. can also cause constipation. In addition, constipation is also related to genetic and physical factors.

2. The difference between constipation and constipation

1. The shape of poop

Belly retention: The baby just poops less often, but the stool is still thin and mushy, and the baby does not have any effort when defecating;

Constipation: The baby's stool is relatively dry and hard, so it is more difficult to defecate, and sometimes the face can turn red.

2. Mental state

The baby's mental state, appetite, sleep and other symptoms are normal;

Constipation: The baby may also experience unstable sleep, crying when defecating, irritability and other negative emotions.

3. Time of occurrence

Stomachache: only occurs when the baby is 2 to 6 months old;

Constipation: It can occur at any stage.

4. Treatment options

Belly tightness: No special treatment is needed, but you can also try massaging your baby.

Constipation: You can try massage, diet therapy, or use enema under the guidance of a doctor. It is not recommended to use it yourself (enema is highly irritating and can easily lead to dependence)

3. Home treatment methods for constipation

1. Regular bowel movements

Since constipation usually starts to occur around 2 months old, it is important to train your child to have regular bowel movements (e.g., morning and evening bowel movements) so that they can develop good bowel habits early.

2. Increase milk supply

If the child's stool decreases and weight gain is not ideal because of insufficient breast milk, then you can add some formula milk to the child in time; if the baby is more than 4 months old, you can also add a little rice soup, which can better improve the stool condition;

3. Stimulate anal defecation

Twice a day, about 20-30 minutes after the baby feeds, apply an oily topical medication (such as chloramphenicol ointment) to the baby's anus, pad it with soft paper, gently push and press the anus, and do it slowly 10 times. Generally, the baby will feel the urge to defecate or have a bowel movement soon. Dip a sterilized cotton swab in vegetable oil and gently insert it into the baby's anus to induce a bowel movement in the rectum.
