How to take care of a lump on a child’s anus?

In life, some parents find that there is a small ball of flesh at the baby's anus when helping them wipe their buttocks. The color is usually red. What kind of disease is this? Some experts explained that this situation is usually caused by anal infection, and the main reason is that parents do not do relevant anal care. So, what should parents do to meet the standards of baby's anal care?

Why are babies so young so prone to this painful disease? The baby's anal sphincter is relatively loose, and the anal and rectal mucosa are easily prolapsed. In addition, the newborn baby's stool is unformed, so they are prone to indigestion or enteritis. If they are not carefully cared for, the hidden area in the anus can easily be injured by friction from the diaper, causing perianal infection, and anal fistula can easily form after abscesses and ulcers.

If the baby cries after defecation, parents should check the baby's anal area. If there is a peanut-sized lump on one side of the anus that is red and swollen on the surface, soft in the center, and oozes a small amount of pus after breaking, it can basically be determined as an anal infection. Some babies may heal on their own, but most babies will have a small scar here, sometimes with a small amount of secretion, and repeated attacks will form anal fistula.

If anal fistula occurs in boys and girls, the clinical manifestations are different. After the boy's anus becomes inflamed, it becomes red, swollen and painful. After an abscess is formed, the skin around the anus becomes swollen and shiny, and the center softens. After the ulcer breaks, pus flows out and an anal fistula is formed. When diarrhea occurs, feces flows out of the fistula. Repeated inflammation and rupture of abscesses will lead to chronic anal fistula.

It is different for baby girls. The disease develops more rapidly in baby girls. The vulva becomes red and swollen. After rupture, the stool is discharged from the fistula outside the hymen at the vaginal opening. In the first three days, the stool is almost always discharged from the vaginal opening, but no stool is discharged from the anus. It takes about 10 days for the anus to gradually resume defecation. As vaginal defecation decreases, the inflammation around the anal fistula subsides. However, the girl's anal fistula will not heal automatically, and feces will still leak out of the fistula when she suffers from diarrhea in the future. Generally, the phenomenon of stool leakage decreases after the age of 2. If you want to completely cure anal fistula, you must take your baby to the hospital's anorectal department to see a doctor and undergo surgery as soon as possible.

In order to prevent the baby from suffering, how should parents treat the baby's anal and perianal abscess? In fact, it is not difficult. Use warm water to clean the anus every time the baby has a bowel movement, especially when the buttocks have become red after diarrhea, you must rinse the anus and gently wipe it dry with a clean soft cloth. Keep the buttocks clean and dry, and do not wipe it with hard cloth or other unclean things. If any nodules are found, you should take a warm bath or apply hot compress to promote absorption. If an abscess has formed, go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment.

When choosing diapers, parents should use new cotton cloth that is soft and absorbent, or choose disposable diapers. Do not use diapers to wipe your baby's anus, and don't use force. After your baby urinates or defecates, you can use warm water to gently wash the vulva and anus, and then gently wipe it clean with sterilized soft toilet paper. As long as this is done, the occurrence of anal fistula can be effectively prevented.
