What are the symptoms of hypoxia in the baby's brain?

There are many reasons for babies to suffer from brain hypoxia, such as maternal factors, whether the placenta develops normally and provides the necessary nutrients to the baby, blockage of the fetal umbilical cord blood flow, some accidents that occur during the delivery process, and some diseases of the fetus, etc. All of these may cause babies to suffer from brain hypoxia. The harm caused by brain hypoxia to babies is irreversible.

The symptoms of neonatal cerebral hypoxia are divided into three categories: mild, moderate and severe. The manifestations of each degree are different, and the degree of harm caused is also different.

1. Mild

Hyperarousal state, irritability, excitement and high excitability (shaking, tremor), normal muscle tone, active hug reflex, normal sucking reflex, steady breathing, no convulsions. The symptoms usually disappear gradually within 3 days and the prognosis is good.

2. Moderate

Inhibited state, drowsiness or light coma, hypotonia, convulsions in 50% of cases, respiratory apnea and weakened hugging and sucking reflexes. The decrease in muscle tone in the upper limbs of full-term babies is more serious than that in the lower limbs, suggesting that the lesion involves the parasagittal sinus area. If a premature baby shows that the lower limb muscle tone is more severe than the upper limb, it indicates that the lesion is periventricular leukomalacia. If symptoms persist for more than 7 to 10 days, there may be sequelae.

3. Severe

The child is in a coma, with extremely low and loose muscle tone, disappearance of hug reflex and tendon reflex, unequal pupils, poor reaction to light, bulging anterior fontanelle, frequent convulsions, irregular or stopped breathing, and even respiratory failure. The mortality rate among children with severe disease is high, and survivors often have sequelae.

Baby's brain hypoxia care attention :

1. First of all, you should maintain a quiet indoor environment and do not hold or move your baby frequently.

2. Pay attention to keeping warm. Overheating can easily cause the baby to lose water and become dehydrated; too cold can cause the body temperature to not rise or neonatal scleredema. In winter, the ideal temperature of the baby's room should be between 18 and 22 degrees. If conditions do not allow, you can place a hot water bottle around the newborn's swaddling clothes. The water temperature should be 40 to 60 degrees. Change the water every 1 to 2 hours to keep the baby's body temperature between 36 and 37 degrees. Also maintain a certain air humidity.
