First aid for babies choking on saliva

First aid for babies choking on saliva

When mothers feed their children water, if they do not choose the appropriate feeding position, the children may choke when drinking water. After a child chokes, some necessary treatment should be carried out to prevent water from entering the airway and causing infection. After giving birth, mothers should learn more about maintenance knowledge so that even if choking problems occur during feeding, emergency treatment can be used to solve them.

The fundamental reason why babies are prone to choking is that they are still young and their swallowing movements are not well coordinated, so they are prone to choking. The swallowing function of infants and young children has not yet fully developed, and their swallowing movements are not as flexible and fast as those of adults, so they can easily choke when drinking water. How to give first aid when a baby chokes while drinking water?

1. Use external force to clear the water in the baby's respiratory tract

The adult sits down and places the baby on his or her lap, making the baby sit in a more comfortable position. Then, the adult can gently touch or pat the baby's chest and esophagus from bottom to top with the palm of his hand. Use the external force of the adult's palm to help the baby relieve the discomfort of choking.

2. Pay attention to prevent respiratory obstruction

If your baby vomits due to coughing, you should quickly turn his face to one side to prevent the vomit from flowing back into the throat and trachea. Then wrap a handkerchief around your finger and put it into the baby's mouth and even the throat to quickly clean out the spit, spilled milk and food to keep the baby's respiratory tract smooth. Then use a small cotton swab to clean the baby's nostrils to avoid respiratory blockage.

3. Seek medical attention promptly if symptoms do not improve

Babies are still young, and they cannot judge or solve the more serious symptoms of coughing after choking. Therefore, if the baby cannot stop coughing and cannot cough up the water, parents should not hesitate and send the baby to the doctor as soon as possible to avoid causing other injuries.

4. Check the cause of frequent choking

If recently, infants and young children frequently cough and choke when drinking milk or eating. So take some time to take the baby to the maternal and child hospital for a check-up to see if the baby's lungs are inflamed and causing the cough, which in turn leads to choking.
