How to treat precocious puberty in children?

In fact, precocious puberty can cause great harm to children's physical and mental health. The most serious damage is to their psychology, because they will gradually find that they are different from children of the same age, and feel that their development is earlier than children of the same age. This will cause some shadows in the children's hearts. If not treated in time, they may suffer from depression or even autism. Therefore, parents also need to try their best to enlighten their children and make them confident in the treatment.

1. Don’t panic → Parents don’t need to panic if they discover their children are experiencing precocious puberty. Generally speaking, precocious puberty in children is mostly pseudo-precocious puberty. As long as timely treatment is provided when it is discovered that the child may have this disease, it can be cured.

2. Seek medical treatment promptly → Remind everyone to seek medical treatment promptly, mainly because the best time for treatment should not be missed. If treatment is started too late, the child's bones have already closed and the improvement in height will be very limited. There is little point in treating girls over 13 and boys over 15.

3. Which department to go to → The treatment of precocious puberty in children is generally under the jurisdiction of the endocrinology department. In areas where there are no outpatient clinics for precocious puberty in children, patients can go to the hospital's endocrinology department for consultation and treatment.

4. Receive treatment carefully → Once diagnosed with precocious puberty, be sure to follow the doctor's instructions and carefully implement the treatment plan. Children who are undergoing drug treatment for precocious puberty can take progestin drugs such as progesterone, norethindrone, chlormadinone, etc. under the guidance of a doctor, or they can be injected with medroxyprogesterone. The purpose of taking the medication is to inhibit the secretion of gonadotropin by the hypothalamus-pituitary gland to stop the development of secondary sexual characteristics and menstruation, and to prevent short stature caused by premature closure of bones. A small number of children who suffer from precocious puberty due to adrenal or thyroid diseases can also receive corresponding hormone treatment. If precocious puberty is caused by a tumor, surgical removal should be performed as soon as possible once the diagnosis is confirmed.

The appearance of secondary sexual characteristics does not necessarily mean true precocious puberty. Clinically, precocious puberty can be divided into true, false and partial. Children with true precocious puberty develop reproductive ability prematurely, while children with false precocious puberty do not have reproductive ability. Partial (incomplete) precocious puberty mainly includes simple premature breast development, simple premature pubic hair development, and simple premature menarche. Partial precocious puberty is only a special manifestation of secondary sexual characteristics, a developmental variation phenomenon, and also a self-limiting disease. Simple breast development and simple vaginal bleeding are more common in infants and young children.

The most important thing for children with precocious puberty is not to panic, especially parents must stabilize their emotions. If they are too panicked, it will make the child feel fearful, which is very unfavorable for treatment. As long as you find that your child has a tendency to precocious puberty, you must go to the hospital for a detailed examination, and then receive regular treatment. The child can still recover completely.
