What should you pay attention to if your baby falls out of the bed?

When the baby is able to move, the mother should pay more attention to taking good care of the baby, especially to prevent the baby from falling off the bed. If the baby falls accidentally and is not handled properly in time, it may cause irreparable consequences. Usually, the mother must carefully watch the baby, prevent the baby from falling from a height, and give the baby a happy childhood. What should you pay attention to if your baby falls out of the bed? Let’s take a look below.

1. Pay attention to observation

Generally, when a baby accidentally falls off the bed, parents should not rush to pick up the baby immediately, as doing so may cause secondary injury to the injured baby. Observe carefully to see if there is any fracture, then gently pick up the baby and observe carefully to see if there is any injury. If the baby falls from the bed face down, it is generally okay. If the baby hits the ground head first, you must observe carefully. Regardless of the severity of the injury, you must keep the baby under observation for at least 24 hours before you can rest assured.

2. Seeking medical treatment

If the baby cries immediately after falling off the bed, the possibility of brain injury is generally small. Babies are most afraid of falling on their backs. When a baby falls and has bleeding on the head, or if he does not cry after falling but becomes drowsy, sleepy, or unconscious, he must be sent to the hospital for treatment immediately. If there are no special circumstances at the time, you should observe carefully for 24 hours. If vomiting and sleep problems occur repeatedly, seek medical attention immediately. If the baby is bleeding, be sure to bandage it with clean gauze immediately.

3. Cold compress treatment

If the baby only has a small bump on the head from a fall, apply cold compress immediately. If the swelling is large and red, apply some sesame oil first, or apply some moist potato slices on it to relieve pain and dissolve blood stasis. It is also best for parents to communicate more with their children, divert their attention, and try not to let them sleep for the time being.

4. Don’t be stressed

Mothers should not always worry about whether their babies will have a concussion. The characteristic of a concussion is a certain period of loss of consciousness and perception. If the baby remains conscious after falling, then generally everything is fine. Don't worry too much.

5. Prevention

Babies always fall out of bed. How can parents prevent this? It is best to lay some sponges, foam boards, etc. on the ground to act as a cushion even if you fall. Or you can buy some bed rails and install them on the bed. It is best if the distance between the bed rails is less than 10cm to prevent the baby's head from being stuck. You can also put quilts and pillows around the bed to block it.

6. Notes

Children are top priority, so they should be treated with caution and never be taken lightly.
