The bones of young children are in the development period. If children play improperly, they may suffer fractures, which is not conducive to the growth and development of children. If timely treatment and recovery are not paid attention to, it may even cause bone deformities. Therefore, if a child has a fracture, he should be hospitalized in time for treatment, the condition should be closely monitored, and dietary adjustments should be strengthened, which will help the child's bones develop well. 1. Closely monitor the condition Within two weeks after external fixation with plaster or small splint, parents should pay close attention to whether the skin color of the distal end of the child's limbs is ruddy, especially the color of the nails, the temperature and feeling of the skin are normal, and avoid whether the fingers or toes of the limbs can perform interdigital activities. If you find obvious swelling of the jaws, cold or purple limbs, paleness at the distal end, numbness or dullness when acupuncture is performed, or even the child does not feel pain, or severe pain when extending and flexing the fingers or toes, you should go to the hospital immediately and have the doctor remove the splint or splint, check the injured part, and re-fix it after appropriate treatment. Even if it means disrupting the treatment steps, it doesn't matter. 2. Ensure rest and nutrition for children Children with fractures or dislocations should generally rest in bed for 4-7 days to help the fracture ends settle and the swelling of the limbs subside. In the early stages of a fracture, children have a poor appetite due to bed rest and lack of activity. You should prefer a light, easy-to-digest, and appetite-stimulating diet. You can have more meat, egg soup and fresh fish soup, and then gradually add lean meat, fish and soy products. At the same time, encourage children to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables and take in enough vitamins; increase the intake of foods rich in calcium and zinc, such as beef, milk, sesame, oysters, etc., to promote the healing of fractures. 3. Reasonable adjustment of external fixation When using a splint to fix the part, prevent it from breaking, loosening, falling off and getting wet. When resting a fractured limb, you can use a pillow or towel as a guide to promote blood circulation. Reduce swelling and pain at the fracture ends and promote fracture healing. When the swelling disappears, if the splint is loose, you should go to the hospital to re-fix it. To avoid displacement of the fracture ends. In addition, children's fractures are often characterized by incomplete fractures, and the fracture ends heal faster than those in adults. Therefore, regular follow-up examinations and X-rays should be performed (usually every two to three weeks) so that the external fixator can be removed in time. 4. Injection to improve the function of the affected limb During the fixation period, parents should encourage or cooperate with their children to exercise the function of the affected limb. Whether the fracture can heal quickly and whether the function of the affected limb can be restored quickly are closely related to whether the exercise is appropriate. When fixated with a small splint, the upper and lower joints of the fracture should be moved appropriately. It can reduce the degree of disuse muscle atrophy, osteoporosis and joint stiffness of the affected limb; if it is fixed with plaster, the muscles of the limb inside the plaster should be contracted and relaxed and the unfixed joints should be moved. When the external fixator is removed, the circumference of the limb becomes thinner and the joint movement is restricted. This is a normal phenomenon and will return to normal after a certain period of exercise. 5. When using plaster fixation, be sure to raise the affected limb The purpose is to reduce or avoid swelling of the affected limb. Closely observe the blood circulation of the affected limb. In addition, care should be taken to prevent skin abrasions, pressure sores, etc. In daily care, pay attention to observing the child's general condition, the position of the external fixator, and especially the blood circulation of the affected limb: skin color, temperature, and sensation. After the swelling subsides, if the external fixator is loose, it should be re-fixed in time. If necessary, go to the hospital for a follow-up examination and X-ray to observe whether the fracture is displaced and understand the condition of the fracture. 6. Pay attention to the cleanliness of the skin all over the body Take good care of your skin in the morning and evening, especially cleaning the skin folds and pressure areas such as the neck and armpits. Prevent mosquito bites during hot weather. Infants and young children should wash their perineum gently and promptly after each bowel movement. At the same time, to prevent insects from crawling into the plaster, the child's skin and debris that has fallen into the plaster should be cleaned frequently. |
