What causes vomiting in children?

Since children's body systems and organs are not fully developed yet, they often have some minor problems in the process of growing up, and vomiting is the most common one among these problems. When children vomit, many parents will feel very nervous or even at a loss. There are many reasons for children to vomit. It may be that they have eaten some food that causes discomfort. This is a common situation. Of course, it may also be that the child has discomfort in some parts of the body and vomits again. Now let’s talk about the reasons for children’s vomiting.

The main causes of vomiting are :

1. Improper feeding or eating: Overfeeding during the neonatal period, improper milk formula, swallowing large amounts of air while feeding; infants and young children eating large amounts at one time or food that is difficult to digest.

2. Abnormal digestive function: Systemic infectious diseases. If you suffer from upper respiratory tract infection, bronchitis, pneumonia, sepsis and other diseases, you will often experience vomiting along with high fever, nausea, loss of appetite, etc.

3. Digestive tract infectious diseases: gastritis, enteritis, dysentery, appendicitis and other diseases can cause reflex vomiting due to local irritation, which is often accompanied by other digestive system symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

4. Neurological diseases: Central nervous system diseases such as encephalitis, meningitis, intracranial hemorrhage or tumors, and craniocerebral trauma can also cause vomiting, which is characterized by no nausea before vomiting and projectile vomiting, but is often accompanied by nerves.

Children's vomiting treatment medication

1. Patients with severe vomiting must fast for 4 hours. Except for gastric perforation, gastric lavage can be performed with normal saline or 1-2% sodium bicarbonate solution. Be sure to lie on your side to prevent vomit from being inhaled into the trachea.

2. After vomiting stops or is alleviated, give a small amount of thick, slightly warm, easily digestible food or liquid diet such as rice soup.

3. Those with dehydration or electrolyte imbalance should be given fluid and electrolyte replacement as needed. If there is peripheral circulatory failure, it should be treated as circulatory failure.

4. Patients with frequent vomiting should be given antiemetics and sedatives, such as Lumina Hibernation Spirit, Metoclopramide suppository, etc. Metoclopramide should be used with caution.

5. Antispasmodics, such as Solanum lycopersicum, atropine 654-2, propantheline, and 1-2% procaine (1-2 ml/year/time) can also be used according to the condition of the patient, but be careful that improper use may mask symptoms and hinder a clear diagnosis.

6. Patients with intracranial hypertension and cerebral edema can be treated with dehydrating agents such as mannitol hypertonic glucose solution.

Prevention and health care for children vomiting

1. It is not advisable to breastfeed newborn babies too quickly. After breastfeeding, hold the baby upright and pat his back gently until he burps.

2. Pay attention to eating at regular times and in regular amounts, avoid overeating, and don't overeat fried, greasy foods, and cold drinks.

3. Patients with mild vomiting can take easily digestible liquid or semi-liquid food in small amounts and multiple times. Those with severe vomiting should temporarily fast.

4. Let the child lie on his side to prevent vomit from being inhaled.

5. Actively identify the cause of vomiting and treat it accordingly.
