Stye is often called sty. Stye is a relatively common inflammation. Generally, the incidence rate is relatively high in children. Stye usually causes symptoms such as swollen and painful eyelids. Most of the causes of sty are caused by bad living habits. Some people often rub their eyes, while others are overworked and do not pay attention to rest. In fact, it is necessary to develop good work and rest habits in daily life to prevent many diseases. 1. What is a stye? Stye is an acute suppurative inflammation of the eyelid gland, commonly known as stye. The symptoms include small boils on the eyelids, slight itching, local redness, swelling, heat, and pain. When the boils mature, they may burst and discharge pus on their own. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that it is caused by exogenous wind-heat toxins, excessive consumption of spicy food, accumulation of heat toxins in the spleen and stomach, and the upward attack of heat toxins. This disease is mostly caused by staphylococcal infection. Patients are more common in adolescents. Those with weak constitution, myopia, hyperopia and bad hygiene habits are most susceptible to the disease. Depending on the location of the disease, it can be divided into external hordeolum and internal hordeolum. 2. What causes stye? (1) External stye: It is an inflammation of the eyelash follicles or the sebaceous glands near them. It is slightly itchy at first, and the eyelid becomes swollen and congested locally. There is also a feeling of swelling and tenderness, and a nodule can be felt near the eyelid margin. Later, the nodules gradually soften and yellow pustules form at the roots of the eyelashes. If the pus breaks through the skin and overflows, the redness and swelling will quickly subside, and the pain will also be relieved. (2) Internal hordeolum: The symptoms are similar to those of external hordeolum, except that the pain is more severe and the disease develops more slowly than external hordeolum. Before the abscess breaks through, a yellow pus head is often faintly visible on the surface of the eyelid conjunctiva, which may break through on its own. If the marginal plate fails to break through and the bacterial toxins are strong, the inflammation can spread and form an eyelid abscess. 3. Precautions for self-treatment (1) Pay attention to eye hygiene and avoid bad habits such as wiping eyes with dirty hands or dirty handkerchiefs. (2) Get enough rest, avoid staying up late, and avoid overstraining your eyes. (3) Avoid spicy foods such as garlic, pepper, and chili peppers. (4) Avoid eating too much greasy and heavy dishes, eat more vegetables, and eat less sugar. (5) During the acute phase, patients should avoid being exposed to smoke or heat. (6) Maintain smooth bowel movements. Antibiotic eye drops can be used more frequently and supplemented with warm compresses. |
