Symptoms of mental illness in children

Symptoms of mental illness in children

When children are growing up, parents need to closely observe their physical condition, especially their psychological problems. Generally speaking, if children have psychological problems, they will usually show up through some bad behaviors, and parents need to pay attention to them. If they are not corrected in time, over time, mental illness will become more and more serious. What are the manifestations of children's mental illness?

Symptoms of mental illness in children

1. Nail biting

Some children like to bite their nails, especially when they are talking or interacting with others. They will be very nervous and will bite their nails when they are nervous. At this time, parents should consider whether they often criticize and scold their children, or whether their children are bullied by friends and classmates but dare not speak out, or whether their children have suffered setbacks, leading to mental depression, frustration and inferiority, and relieve their emotions by biting their nails. Some children have more serious conditions and will bite their nails repeatedly. Not only will they bite their fingernails clean, but they will also bite their toenails bare and may even bite them until they bleed. This may be a nail biting habit.

There is also an old saying that nails contain lead, and long-term nail biting may cause children to not grow tall. Regardless of the situation, parents should take it seriously.

2. Head-banging

Some children will bang their heads against the wall or the ground when their demands are not met or they are emotionally stimulated. Sometimes they will also engage in self-harm by hitting the head, face, pinching headphones, pulling hair, etc. These are mostly a way for children to express their demands, but if this behavior often occurs after the age of 4, parents need to be especially vigilant, as it may be caused by psychological factors, and they should consult a psychologist to find out the cause and deal with it appropriately.

3. Anorexia and picky eating

If a child has a long-term anorexia and is picky about food, has a weak constitution and is prone to colds, it may lead to malnutrition. In addition to physiological reasons, psychological factors are also an important factor. If children are often beaten and scolded by their parents while eating, they will become nervous and anxious, develop anorexia, and suffer from psychological disorders. When children do not want to eat, parents must not scold or force them. Instead, they should use the method of inducement and encouragement to create a pleasant dining environment for the children, which will be beneficial to the children's physical and mental health.

4. Over-dependence

Some children are dependent. They have to rely on their parents for everything. They need to be fed, held when walking, fed when drinking water, held when urinating and defecating, held when sleeping, and coaxed when unhappy. They are very "stubborn". Such children can be often encountered, and they are all spoiled by their parents. It is normal for children to rely on their parents when they are young, but it is abnormal if some older children are still very dependent on their parents. Parents should find ways to improve the situation, let their children complete a task independently, encourage their children to make new friends, give their children an independent space, and help their children get rid of their dependent mentality.
