Children catch colds repeatedly, and parents ignore 7 points!

If a child does not have any congenital disease but catches a cold or fever easily, parents should be careful, as the child may be suffering from a recurrent cold! Recurrent respiratory infections, also known as susceptible children, refer to children who suffer from recurrent respiratory infections. These children have frequent respiratory infections within one year, which exceeds the normal range. If things go on like this, it will affect children's growth and development, and even their intellectual development. In severe cases, it can cause damage to important organs such as the heart, lungs, and brain, such as pericarditis, meningitis, etc., which seriously endangers the physical and mental health of children, affects their daily study and life, and brings a heavy burden and pressure to the family.

Criteria for judging recurrent symptoms:

The respiratory tract can be divided into the upper respiratory tract and the lower respiratory tract. The upper respiratory tract refers to the nose, pharynx and larynx, while the trachea, bronchi and alveoli below the larynx are the lower respiratory tract. Respiratory tract infection refers to infection of the respiratory system, including rhinitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis, tracheitis, pneumonia, etc.

Some of the causes of disease may be unexpected:

Recurrent respiratory tract infections in children are a common pediatric disease, with an incidence rate of about 20%, and the highest incidence rate is in children under 6 years old. To prevent this disease, we must first understand the causes. Let’s take a look.

1. Malnutrition

Picky eating or long-term lack of appetite, not breastfeeding or improper artificial feeding can cause malnutrition, vitamin D deficiency, anemia, etc. The child's body resistance is reduced and he is prone to repeated respiratory infections.

2. Environmental hazards

A large amount of smoke in the environment, such as harmful substances such as sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide, enters the human body through the respiratory tract. When harmful substances exceed a certain concentration, the body's resistance will decrease, thus inducing respiratory infections.

3. Passive smoking

When pregnant women or people around them smoke, the nicotine in their blood can directly or indirectly act on the uterine and placental arteries, causing chronic hypoxia in the fetus and congenital deficiencies in respiratory physiological functions, making them prone to repeated respiratory infections in infancy. The chance of infection in such children is 7 times higher than that of other children.

4. Bad hygiene habits

Lack of good hygiene habits is the most likely cause of recurrent respiratory infections. If the room is not ventilated regularly, or the balcony is closed, or air conditioning is used, making the indoor air stale, this will reduce the child's body resistance. When there are patients with respiratory or suppurative diseases around, the bacteria can be spread through the air, which can also increase the chance of respiratory infection in children.

5. Improper treatment

When children have recurrent respiratory tract infections, especially bacterial infections, some parents give their children Chinese medicine or antibiotics without sufficient treatment. After 2 to 3 days of taking the medicine, they stop taking it as soon as the fever subsides. Although the pathogenic bacteria are temporarily suppressed, they are not completely eliminated. Instead, chronic lesions are formed, such as chronic tonsillitis, chronic pharyngitis and chronic sinusitis. The bacteria remain latent for a long time and will recur once they get cold, tired or have low resistance. However, if antibiotics are abused in children, bacteria will develop drug resistance, making the infection difficult to control.

6. Recurrent respiratory infections are also associated with asthma

Children with asthma have low immune function and poor lung ventilation function, and are very prone to infection during the course of the disease. Children with asthma are 32 times more likely to suffer from recurrent respiratory infections than normal children.

7. Parents neglect to keep their children’s feet warm

The feet are the ends of the limbs and have poor blood circulation. If the feet get cold, it will reflexively cause changes in the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract, such as the nose, pharynx, and trachea, which will reduce the ability to resist pathogenic microorganisms. Pathogenic bacteria lurking in the body will grow and multiply in large numbers, causing the child to become ill. Especially for infants, whose body temperature regulation center is not perfect and whose ability to resist cold is poor, and whose feet are often exposed to cold due to little physical activity, they are very susceptible to respiratory infections.

In addition, repeated infections are also related to factors such as admission to daycare institutions, lack of exercise, and migration of residence; some are related to chronic lesions in the nasopharynx, such as rhinitis, sinusitis, enlarged tonsils, enlarged adenoids, and chronic tonsillitis.
