The dangers of hitting the soles of babies' feet

The dangers of hitting the soles of babies' feet

Some babies are slow to react or are in a state of long-term sleep, so many parents will look for ways to stimulate the baby's body to test the baby's reaction. Because the baby's body is very soft and fragile, the sole of the baby's foot is a very ticklish and weak area. Therefore, many parents will hit the sole of the baby's foot to stimulate the baby's body. So what kind of harm will hitting the sole of the baby's foot cause?

The harm of newborn baby's feet

Many babies breastfeed frequently because their mothers do not seize the opportunity to breastfeed on demand, but instead breastfeed on time, which causes the baby to not sleep or eat well, and the baby needs to breastfeed again after the nipple is taken off. For newborns, it is important to strictly grasp the breastfeeding signals and meet their needs, allowing them to sleep when they want to sleep and feed when they want to eat. If the baby is awakened after three hours, wake him/her up gently without disturbing him/her. In particular, do not use rough methods such as tapping the soles of the baby's feet, pinching the earlobes, or shouting to wake the baby up for feeding. If you wake up your baby in this way, even though he is small, he will get angry and irritable and won't be able to eat well.

Newborn care precautions

First, there is no need to wake up for feedings while sleeping. Newborns need an average of 18 hours of sleep a day, and each sleep cycle is about 45 minutes. In a sleep cycle, light sleep and deep sleep each account for half. Newborns spend most of their time sleeping, entering one sleep cycle another. Generally, when they are hungry or need to urinate, they will wake up every 2 to 4 hours to feed or urinate. The circadian rhythm of newborns has not yet been established, so the biological clock does not need to be adjusted, just let nature take its course.

Secondly, physical and environmental discomfort affects sleep. Newborns usually have poor sleep because of internal discomfort. During the baby care process, new mothers and fathers need to observe why the baby does not sleep well, whether it is because the baby is hungry, whether the indoor temperature is too high in summer and the air conditioner is not turned on, causing the baby to be too hot, or the diaper is wet and the baby wants to defecate, or whether the baby has a fever. Parents need to observe carefully to ensure that a comfortable sleeping environment is provided for the newborn.

Third, breastfed babies do not need calcium supplements. Calcium supplementation is generally not needed during the neonatal period. Since mothers lose a lot of calcium during childbirth, they need to supplement calcium. Newborns can get enough calcium through breastfeeding. If breast milk is not enough, additional formula milk can be added to supplement the calcium of newborns.

Fourth, early sucking can reduce adverse intestinal reactions. Early contact and early sucking can allow the baby to be the first to come into contact with the emotions, smells and microorganisms from the mother. This is because a certain amount of microorganisms contained in the mother's nipples grow and multiply in the baby's intestines, which can reduce adverse gastrointestinal reactions.

Newly born babies are in an underdeveloped stage and are still in a transitional period of adapting to the surrounding environment, so tapping the soles of their feet is not suitable as a stimulation method for newborns. As parents, we need to provide them with particularly careful and patient care. Although new parents lack experience in this area, we can increase our knowledge in this area by reading more books and articles to help us take better care of newborns.
