What to do if your child has ear knots

What to do if your child has ear knots

The development of children is an issue that many adults are very concerned about. During the growth process of children, more or less minor illnesses will occur. Some children will also have symptoms of ear knots. Generally speaking, children's ear knots are likely caused by illness. If not treated in time, suppuration may occur. So what should you do when a child has ear knots?

1. Soften

Earwax is the common name for ear knots. They are the same concept. The medical term for earwax is "cerumen", which is usually flaky, and sometimes sticky and yellow. The latter is called "oily cerumen", which is normal, but due to its special properties, it is not easy to be discharged from the ear canal by itself. After filling the external auditory canal, it will cause hearing impairment, so after a period of time (the specific time is uncertain), if you feel that it is almost full, you should go to the hospital to remove it. It is recommended to go to the ENT department of the hospital for examination. Sodium bicarbonate is used to prepare ear drops to soften the earwax, and then professional ENT tools are used to remove the earwax. Never dig it out by yourself to avoid infection and damage to the eardrum. It is recommended to take it during sleep or go to an ENT doctor for treatment.

2. Conventional treatment

Control infection, clean the area, remove pus crusts, promote drying, and in the acute phase, use systemic antibiotics to control infection. For those who take analgesics and have severe swelling and exudation in the external auditory canal, 5%-8% aluminum acetate gauze can be used to plug the external auditory canal. The patient is required to drip the above-mentioned medicine into the affected area every 3-4 hours, and the gauze strips should be changed every day. It has astringent and anti-inflammatory effects and can promote drying. Alternatively, 2%-5% silver nitrate solution can be applied, or a combination of antibiotics and steroid hormones, pastes or creams can be used for local application.

3. Others

If the ear knot does not make your baby upset or cry, there is no need to remove it. If you need to remove it, you can't do it yourself. You have to go to the hospital and let the doctor use professional equipment to remove it. When you want to clean the ear canal of a baby or young child, you cannot use the ear spoon that adults use. Instead, use a moistened cotton swab and gently rotate it.
