What should I do if my child has heatstroke and fever? Multiple ways to solve

In comparison, children are more likely to suffer from heatstroke. Some children will have fever symptoms when they suffer from heatstroke. This situation needs to be taken seriously by parents. In many cases, there is no need to go to the hospital. Some simple methods can be used at home to solve it. For example, the following methods are very effective.

1. Wipe with towel

Soak a towel with warm water and wipe the child's face, forehead, limbs, and armpits to physically cool down the child. Or apply a cold towel to your forehead, then soak it in cold water after it becomes hot and apply it again. Using a cold water bag or ice pack is more effective than applying a cold towel to the forehead.

2. Take a bath

Undress your baby, rub his whole body with a towel and warm water (around 37°C) or take a bath. This will dilate the blood vessels in your baby's skin and release body energy. In addition, when water vapor evaporates from the body surface, it also absorbs body heat. Take a bath for about 10 to 15 minutes each time, about once every 4 to 6 hours.

3. Wipe with alcohol

You can use some household alcohol to apply to the child's Fengchi acupoint and temple. These two acupoints are where heat is concentrated, which usually makes the child feel dizzy and unbearable. Alcohol has a low boiling point and can quickly reduce the temperature, making the child feel refreshed.

4. Pinching acupoints

Considering that the baby has signs of heatstroke, you should quickly move the baby to a cool and ventilated place, pinch the baby's Ren Zhong, Nei Guan and He Gu points, or if there are objects such as needles nearby, disinfect them with fire first, then use the needle to shallowly pierce the Ren Zhong point and squeeze out blood drops. These two methods have a good therapeutic effect on babies who are sweating profusely and exhausted.

5. Warm alcohol bath

While waiting, you can give the baby with a severe fever an alcohol bath. The specific method is: mix 70% alcohol with 1/1 tap water, or 75% alcohol with 1/2 water, or you can mix white wine with 1/4 water, and put them in a small bowl. Keep doors and windows closed during sponge bath, dip gauze or a soft towel in the alcohol in the bowl, and wipe the child's palms, soles, armpits, inner sides of upper arms, chest and thighs.

The temperature of the diluted water should be about 37-40℃, then wipe the limbs and back. If you wipe directly with alcohol, the baby will feel very cold, very uncomfortable, or even convulse. You can repeat it a second time, and repeat it about three times, and the temperature inside and outside the body will drop rapidly. As it reduces fever quickly, it is suitable for children over 1 year old and for high fevers above 40℃ which are difficult to reduce.

6. Antipyretics

Antipyretic drugs should be used as prescribed by a doctor. Excessive dosage may cause excessive sweating and collapse. It also cannot be used too frequently, that is, the interval between two uses of the same antipyretic medicine cannot be too short, so as to avoid accumulation of the medicine in the body and causing side effects. Generally, the interval between two treatments should be 4 to 6 hours.

Paracetamol is the best and safest antipyretic drug for children, with few side effects, and can be kept on hand at home. "Yididiqingdi" developed by Shanghai Huangshan Pharmaceutical Factory is a new dosage form of paracetamol suitable for children. Other antipyretic drugs such as aspirin, pheniramine, and analgin must be used under the guidance of a doctor as they all have different side effects.

7. Seek medical treatment

After going to the hospital, you should ask the doctor to confirm whether it is a viral infection or a bacterial infection. For viral infection, use antiviral drugs (such as ribavirin); for bacterial infection, use antibiotics (such as cephalosporins). Don't rush to reduce the fever, as the fever is only a symptom and the cause of the disease must be found out. It is recommended that those who can take medicine should not get injections, and those who can get injections should not get infusions. The key is to use the right medicine, not strong medicine.
