What are the causes of nosebleeds in 2-year-old children?

Some people always think that nosebleeds only happen to adults. In fact, some children can also experience nosebleeds. There are documented cases of nosebleeds in two-year-old children. Why do children at such a young age have nosebleeds? Is a nosebleed in a two-year-old child a serious matter?

Common causes of nosebleeds: Nosebleeds are a common symptom of many clinical diseases. They can be caused simply by nasal lesions, accounting for about 1/2, or they can be local manifestations of systemic diseases, also accounting for about 1/2. The site of nosebleeds in children often occurs in the front and lower part of the nasal septum, which is called the "Ritter's area."

Overall reasons

1. Acute infection: If a child suffers from a cold, tonsillitis, pneumonia, or an infectious disease such as scarlet fever or mumps, he or she will have a high fever. At this time, the blood vessels in the nasal mucosa will also become violently congested and swollen, and even cause capillaries to rupture and bleed. This nosebleed must be accompanied by a high fever.

2. Blood system diseases: When suffering from blood diseases, such as thrombocytopenic purpura, aplastic anemia, hemophilia, leukemia, etc., nose bleeding is often the earliest symptom. If the child has unexplained nose bleeding, parents should pay special attention.

Local causes

1. Trauma: Minor trauma such as picking or blowing the nose can damage the "Ritter's area" of the nasal septum and cause nose bleeding.

2. Inflammation: Local inflammation of the nasal cavity, such as acute and chronic rhinitis and sinusitis, can cause the blood vessels in the nasal mucosa to dilate or ulcerate, leading to nosebleeds.

3. Tumors: Tumors in the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses and nasopharynx are often rich in new blood vessels. If ulcers, tissue necrosis and secondary infection occur, nose bleeding will occur.

4. Climate factors: Dry climate causes the nasal mucosa to dry and crust over, which can cause nosebleeds. What should we do after a nosebleed occurs?

1. First of all, parents should stay calm and comfort their children. Do not panic in front of their children, which will scare them, cause them to cry and become restless, and aggravate the bleeding.

2. Take some simple and easy methods to stop nosebleed as soon as possible. ① Acupressure method: first let the child sit down and lean forward slightly. Be sure to let your child breathe through his mouth and pinch the nostrils to close both nostrils for 10 minutes. The pinching and pressure should be continued for a full 10 minutes.

It can usually stop mild nose bleeding. ② Packing method: use a sterile cotton ball with Yunnan Baiyao on it and stuff it into the nostrils, or use a hemostatic sponge to pack it. At this time, you need to pay attention to the pharynx. If there is blood flowing down from the pharynx, it means that the nose bleeding has not stopped. ③ Finger pricking method: use a rope to tightly tie the middle section of the middle finger. If the left nose is bleeding, prick the right hand; if the right nose is bleeding, prick the left hand; if both noses are bleeding, prick both hands at the same time. ④Daoyin method: soak both feet in warm water, or mash garlic and apply it to the soles of feet. If the right nose is bleeding, apply it to the left sole, and if the left nose is bleeding, apply it to the right sole.

3. Pay attention to prevention on a daily basis. Children with a history of nosebleeds, in addition to active physical exercise on a daily basis, should drink more water when the climate is dry, and apply a little oil in the nasal cavity to keep the nasal mucosa moist. Do not pick your nose or blow your nose hard.

If you find that your child has a nosebleed, you must take it seriously, because it may be a symptom of certain diseases. As parents, we should not ignore our children's health. No matter what, we are responsible for our children's health and should not ruin their lives because of our carelessness.
