Do babies need calcium supplements if they are not calcium deficient? How should they do it?

Babies need a lot of calcium during their individual development. Even if your body is not deficient in calcium, you can still supplement it through your diet. The best diet for children is a balanced diet, which can meet all the elements needed by the body.

1. Children's growth and development require reasonable nutritional supplementation. Among various inorganic salts, iron, zinc and calcium are the most easily deficient. Therefore, some parents often buy calcium powder and calcium tablets for their children. Do all children need calcium supplements?

2. Milk and seafood contain more calcium. Every 100 grams of milk contains 102 mg of calcium. 500 ml of milk can meet the daily calcium requirement of children under 3 years old. The calcium absorption rate in breast milk is better than that in raw milk, so breastfed children are less likely to suffer from calcium deficiency. Shrimp skin, kelp, fish bone meal and other aquatic products are all good sources of calcium. Every 100 grams of shrimp skin contains up to 1,760 mg of calcium. Soybeans contain a lot of calcium, but their skin contains more phytic acid, which will hinder the absorption of calcium. The absorption rate will be greatly increased after peeling. Some vegetables, such as spinach, are also high in calcium. If they can be blanched first and then stir-fried to remove some of the oxalic acid before eating, they can also be a good source of calcium.

3. Vitamin D can greatly promote the absorption of calcium. If you simply supplement calcium without supplementing vitamin D, you still cannot avoid the occurrence of rickets. Generally speaking, children over two years old spend more time outdoors. After their skin is exposed to sunlight, it will synthesize vitamin D for the human body to use. In addition, the variety of food increases at this time, and the sources of calcium and vitamin D are richer. At the same time, their growth rate is slower than before, so rickets is very rare and generally no additional calcium supplementation is needed.

4. Isotope studies have shown that excessive calcium in the intestines will be excreted with feces, which not only causes waste, but also hinders the absorption of iron and zinc, causing anemia and loss of appetite. This is because iron, zinc and calcium are all divalent cations, which will antagonize each other during intestinal absorption. Therefore, children cannot be blindly supplemented with large amounts of calcium.
