How to tell if a newborn is calcium deficient?

The phenomenon of calcium deficiency in newborns cannot be ignored, because calcium deficiency is not conducive to the bone development and growth of newborns, and is not conducive to the child's height growth. In addition, they will not sleep well for a long time and are prone to distress at night, which is not good for children.

1. Judging from the child’s height.

A child is generally about 50cm tall when he is born. His height grows fastest within six months of age, and then grows relatively slowly. By the age of one, the child's height is generally around 75cm~80cm. Children who are calcium deficient will have developmental delays and be shorter than other children of the same age.

2. Judging from the child’s night crying.

They often cry at night and have trouble sleeping. A normal child needs to sleep for more than ten hours a day, but a child with calcium deficiency may only sleep for a few hours. The family feels very tiring to take care of the child. In addition, the child often cries for no reason and his head sweats easily.

3. Judging from the baldness on the back of the head of the child.

Children are prone to occipital baldness, which is when the hair on the occipital bone at the back of the head (the part where the child's head touches the pillow when sleeping) falls out in an even pattern, forming a small circle through which the scalp can be seen. This is not caused by sleeping, but is a sign of calcium deficiency. The child often cries at night and has trouble sleeping.

4. Look at the child’s behavior.

Children who are calcium deficient learn to walk later than children of the same age. They have weak legs, learn to walk slowly, and fall easily. If the calcium deficiency in the body is not corrected in time and the child is forced to walk prematurely, the child's legs will become deformed, such as X-legs and O-legs. At this time, it is necessary to supplement your child with calcium in time. Do not rush your child to learn to walk. Wait until the calcium in the body returns to normal before letting your child learn to walk.

5. The development of the head and chest also gradually becomes abnormal.

Bead-like bulges can be found on the chest, and the chest is long and narrow, much like a chicken breast. The fontanelle of the head closes late. The posterior fontanelle usually closes when the child is 3 to 4 months old, and the anterior fontanelle closes when the child is 1 to 1.5 years old. If it closes too late, it means that the child is calcium deficient.
