What is the reason for diarrhea with blood in children?

Children have a high chance of suffering from diarrhea, which is listed as one of the four pediatric diseases. Especially for some children who are not very old, diarrhea occurs particularly frequently. Once a child shows symptoms of diarrhea, parents will be very nervous and even at a loss. If you want to treat your child's diarrhea, you must first understand what factors cause the child's diarrhea. The following are some of the more common causes of diarrhea.

1. Gastroenteritis Gastroenteritis (also called stomach flu) is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines that can cause diarrhea in infants, children, and adults. Gastroenteritis is very common and can be caused by many different viruses. The most common pathogen is rotavirus. Half of the children hospitalized for diarrhea are infected with this virus, which occurs most frequently in late autumn and early winter. If your baby has diarrhea, stomach cramps, vomiting, and a low-grade fever, it is likely gastroenteritis.

2. Bacterial infection Severe diarrhea (sometimes accompanied by vomiting), abdominal pain, bloody stools, and fever are often caused by viruses or bacteria (Escherichia coli, Salmonella, etc.). Some of these infections are self-healing, but some can be very serious (such as infections caused by E. coli in undercooked meat). Therefore, if your baby has the above symptoms, you should take him to see a doctor.

3. Parasites Parasitic infections may also cause diarrhea. For example, giardiasis (also called giardiasis) is caused by a microscopic parasite that lives in the intestines. Parasites are easily spread when living in groups and require special medications to treat. Therefore, developing good hygiene habits, such as washing hands after changing diapers, is the best way to stop the spread of parasitic infections.

Children's diarrhea must be treated promptly, but you cannot give them random medications, as this will make the diarrhea worse, damage their stomach and intestines, and even endanger their lives. Therefore, the editor recommends that parents take their children to the hospital as soon as possible after their children have diarrhea, and conduct stool tests to determine the cause of the diarrhea.
