What is neonatal hematoma?

Neonatal hematoma is generally one or several bulges on the top of the newborn's head after birth. It feels a little fluctuating, but it does not hurt and there is no depression when pressed. Many young mothers do not know what this problem is and are very worried, fearing that it will affect the child's development and growth. So how should parents treat neonatal hematoma? What exactly is neonatal hematoma? Now let us go and learn.

Neonatal hematoma is one of the more common birth injuries in obstetrics. It is caused by the baby's head being squeezed when passing through the birth canal during delivery. The small blood vessels under the periosteum of the skull at the top of the head that pass through the birth canal are damaged and ruptured, causing bleeding, forming a localized hematoma under the periosteum. Generally, bleeding from small blood vessels will stop naturally and will not continue. The bump on the top of the head caused by a cranial hematoma will slowly disappear after the blood in the hematoma is gradually absorbed, but it will take about several months to shrink and flatten out.

Steps and methods:

1. In the early stage of hematoma, local cold compress can be applied to prevent the hematoma from growing;

2. Patients with large hematomas should undergo X-ray examination to find out whether there is skull injury, and blood should be drawn to test coagulation function. If abnormalities are found, appropriate treatment should be given promptly;

3. Allow the hematoma of the head to be absorbed naturally. Do not rub the hematoma. Do not draw blood from the hematoma to prevent infection. If infection occurs and abscesses are formed, they should be incised and drained in time.

4. Children with hematoma should be moved less and lie on the healthy side.

In fact, some neonatal hematomas are relatively mild, but some are relatively serious, so they cannot be ignored and you must be vigilant. Once you find this problem, tell the doctor immediately, listen to the doctor's advice, and actively cooperate with the doctor's arrangements. Secondly, pay attention to daily care and never press on yourself.
