Can babies eat egg white? Beware of allergic reactions

In the eyes of many parents, eggs are rich in nutrients and children can eat eggs, but experts say that if the child is under one year old, it is best not to eat egg whites, as this may cause an allergic reaction to the protein and symptoms such as eczema.

1. Can babies eat egg white?

Do not eat egg white. Because the digestive system of babies under one year old is not yet fully developed, the intestinal wall is relatively delicate. Some small molecule albumin in egg white, which is a foreign protein, can easily pass through the intestinal wall and enter the blood, causing an allergic reaction to the foreign protein in the baby's body, leading to symptoms such as eczema and measles.

It cannot be eaten. Compared with egg yolk, egg white is more difficult to digest and can easily cause allergies in babies. Babies can start eating egg yolks when they are four months old, and can eat egg whites after at least eight months.

2. Wrong practice: feeding egg white to babies under one year old

It should be noted that it is not suitable to eat egg white before one year old. This is because the baby's digestive system is not fully developed, the intestinal wall is very thin and the permeability is very high. The protein in egg white is albumin, which has small molecules and can directly pass through the intestinal wall into the baby's blood, easily causing a series of allergic reactions or allergic diseases, such as eczema, urticaria, asthmatic bronchitis, etc.

3. At what age can babies eat egg white?

The baby's digestive system is not fully developed before the age of six months, and the permeability of the intestinal wall is high, so it is not appropriate to feed egg white at this time.

The protein molecules in egg white are small and can sometimes pass through the intestinal wall directly into the baby's blood, causing the baby's body to have an allergic reaction to foreign protein molecules, leading to diseases such as eczema and urticaria. Therefore, babies under six months old should not be fed egg whites and should only eat egg yolks. It is recommended that parents start feeding egg white to their babies after they are 1 year old, and never let their babies develop a picky eating habit of not eating egg white.

There are many ways to eat eggs. As far as the absorption and digestion rate of eggs for adults is concerned, boiled eggs are 100%, scrambled eggs are 97%, deep-fried eggs are 98%, deep-fried eggs are 81.1%, eggs mixed with boiling water or milk are 92.5%, and eggs eaten raw are 30% to 50%. Therefore, boiled eggs are the best way to eat them for adults. However, for babies, since their teeth are not yet fully developed, boiled egg whites are difficult for them to chew, and the egg yolks need to be crushed before they can be eaten. Steamed egg custard and egg drop soup are very suitable for babies, because these two methods can make the protein tender and do not require chewing, so it is very easy for babies to digest and absorb.
