Most parents let their newborns lie down while they hold the bottle to feed them, because they think it is more convenient for the baby to drink and the milk is not easy to spill. However, feeding the baby lying down with the bottle upright is likely to cause the baby to not be able to breathe during the process of drinking milk, and the milk will choke the baby. So what is the correct posture for feeding a newborn with a bottle? 1. Test the temperature and flow rate of the milk before feeding. Open the bottle cap slightly to let in some air. If the milk does not flow out, you can move the bottle slightly to allow air to enter the bottle, and then continue with the previous steps. When feeding, the bottle should be fixed at an angle to ensure that the baby does not choke on air when drinking milk. 2Put the bottle in your mouth. Pat your baby on one cheek to stimulate his sucking reflex. Carefully place the nipple into your baby's mouth; if the nipple is placed too deep, it may cause choking. 3. Feed with a bottle and talk to your baby from time to time. If the baby is willing, you can take a break before continuing to feed. You can take this opportunity to turn your baby to the other side, giving him a different perspective and allowing your arm to relax. 4 Remove the bottle. If you want to remove the bottle, you can gently slide your little finger into the baby's mouth. This action can stop the baby from sucking. 5 Most babies like to drink warm milk. Soak the bottle in warm water for a few minutes. Place a few drops of milk on the inside of your wrist to determine the temperature. 6 To reduce the amount of air your baby swallows, tilt the bottle upside down and fill the entire nipple with formula so that the air rises to the bottom of the bottle. 7. The baby’s head should be kept in a straight line with the body. Tilting the head or tilting it back while feeding can make it difficult for your baby to swallow. 1. Sitting feeding posture The best position to feed your baby is while sitting. (1) The mother can sit on a chair with a backrest and prepare a small stool. When feeding your baby, if the baby sucks the left breast, put your left leg on the stool, and vice versa. This makes it easier to lift the baby's head and make it easier for the baby to drink milk. (2) You can hold the baby up and let him/her lean on the mother’s thighs, while letting the baby rest on the mother’s arms, and then use the strength of the wrist to support the baby’s back. (3) The mother can use her other hand to support one of her breasts and squeeze out a few drops of remaining milk. Then test the baby with the nipple and let the baby open his mouth by himself. If the child has opened his mouth, the mother should put the nipple close to the child's mouth and make sure the child sucks the entire nipple. (4) Mothers can also gently massage their breasts, which will make it easier for the baby to drink milk and will not press on the baby’s nose. |
