What are the symptoms of sequelae of infantile meningitis

There are many diseases that occur in infancy, and meningitis is one of them. Meningitis needs to be detected and treated early, otherwise it is easy to cause sequelae. The symptoms of sequelae generally include hydrocephalus, vomiting, muscle weakness in the limbs, coma, etc.

Sequelae of neonatal meningitis

1. Hydrocephalus . When suffering from meningitis, purulent exudate can easily block narrow channels or cause adhesions, causing cerebrospinal circulation disorders and producing hydrocephalus. It is common in patients who are treated improperly or too late, especially in newborns and infants.

2. In addition to water and electrolyte imbalance caused by vomiting , irregular eating, etc., cerebral hyponatremia may also be seen. Symptoms include insomnia, convulsions, coma, edema, general weakness, low muscle tone in the limbs, and oliguria.

3. Due to untimely or incomplete treatment , some newborns may experience intellectual impairment, while other children may become blind or have hearing loss, which can indirectly affect the intellectual development of children.

4. Since brain parenchymal damage and adhesions can affect the cranial nerves, meningitis patients may develop epilepsy (epilepsy) after injury. It manifests as different disorders of movement, sensation, consciousness, autonomic nervous system, and spirit. Clinically, it is characterized by sudden loss of consciousness, sudden fall, convulsions of limbs, foaming at the mouth or strange noises, and waking up like a normal person.
