What should I do if my child has periodontitis? Four steps to tell you

Nowadays, children’s childhood is very fulfilling, and they eat sweets more and more unreservedly. They eat all they can, and even take away those they cannot eat and eat them later. What’s worse, they don’t develop a good habit of brushing their teeth in the morning and evening, so the chances of children suffering from periodontitis can’t help but increase. So, what should we do?

1. Gingivitis: inflammatory phenomena such as gingival congestion, edema, and loose tissue.

2. Teeth are loose to varying degrees: Pathological loosening will only occur when the periodontal tissue is destroyed to a certain extent, especially when the alveolar bone is absorbed to a certain level. The degree of tooth loosening is related not only to alveolar bone absorption, but also to inflammatory substances.

3. Periodontal pocket formation: When inflammatory changes occur in the periodontal tissue, especially after the alveolar bone is absorbed, a pocket is formed between the gums and the root surface of the teeth. This pocket is called a periodontal pocket. Through probing, we can detect its location and depth. The inflammation is more obvious in those with deep periodontal pockets, and when the inflammation is obvious, there will be pus overflow from the periodontal pockets.

4. Alveolar bone absorption: X-ray examination can be used to observe the absorption of the alveolar bone. When the absorption is mild, the X-ray film can show that the alveolar ridge in the anterior teeth area changes from sharp to flat, and the top of the alveolar ridge in the posterior teeth area becomes concave; then, as the disease progresses, the horizontal absorption of the alveolar bone worsens, and the degree of absorption is closely related to the depth of the periodontal pocket and the looseness of the teeth.
